It boils my p***
It boils my p***
I mentioned this car recently in another thread that I can't find https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-famil ... DyuVzw6FW4
Regardless of who paid such a ridicuolus price for this average example, every Mk3 Escort and alike will now be hiked in price
Classic vehicles are fast becoming a hobby for the rich a majority of which won't even drive them or share with the public, just lock them away so the probable knock on price hike in parts/spares won't bother them, and in a few years time sell it for even more £££

Best buy one quick then.
And sell it on in a few years.
And sell it on in a few years.
Re: It boils my p***
Then again, if you had a piece of Diana`s used toilet paper you`d get good money for it! It`s all crazy!

I agree with you Andy, the money side of having a classic car, as you've described, is a really poor aspect of this as a hobby.
In fact, with all the problems heading our way it is difficult to be positive about older car ownership in general.
I'll just keep driving and enjoying mine for as long as I can.

Re: It boils my p***
For those that bought their Capri or classic around 10 years ago I don't think you need to worry too much, as you have less money invested in it albeit the running and maintenance costs have gone up. Buying one now is a whole different matter, unless you are one of those mentioned in my first post!pbar wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 10:41 am I agree with you Andy, the money side of having a classic car, as you've described, is a really poor aspect of this as a hobby.

Regardless of what's coming down the line, enjoy it and don't let the grind you down

Wouldn't lose hope over one car.
It is priced because of the Diana connection, and to be fair it has 100% solid provenance and it definitely had her arse sat on the drivers seat.
The good news is its buggaring off to Chile so little chance of having to see it ever again!
Trying to stay positive here.

Alot of background noise there Nick
If the car had just come out of storage with low mileage and still registered in Dianas name I could understand the higher price, but as it's had a few owners since to me it's just another old Escort now.
I wonder what the second owner paid for it back then
Re: It boils my p***
Very true, but sadly too many greedy people out there inc dealers that will still price hike on the back of thisNoel wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 12:15 pm Wouldn't lose hope over one car.

Re: It boils my p***
As said, its the Diana connection that has made this Escort sell at a price far above what a regular car would fetch. I don't believe it's an indication of the way the market is heading.
If the rich want to spend their money on Royal artefacts, then let 'em !
In a way this car's value is a good thing, as it almost guarantees that it will be preserved for future generations to enjoy. Probably long after most other cars with petrol engines have been scrapped.
Andrew.

It's been said before but ultimately its buyers that dictate the price. You can't blame a seller for maximising his profit but it relies on buyers coughing up. I'm sure many of us have seen Bangers and Cash with optimistic reserves but if the right people are interested it might sell anyway and its then only the ones that sell that become newsworthy.

Can't argue with that Peter.Peter-S wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 7:27 pm It's been said before but ultimately its buyers that dictate the price. We all have different limits on our financies, some spend every penny they have on something they want and others decide when something is too expensive to make sense.
You don't often see cars that aren't selling reduced too much even when they have been on the market for months on end

The toilet paper is bad, but it is on a carpet and that makes it worse
I'm the one who leaves all those shoes in the carriageway.
