intermittent wipers

Post by brooky »

hi all, I know this will be obvious, how do you operate the intermittent wipers.

the switch shows 2 positions going up which works, push for washer which works and then the switch has an arrow going down for intermittent but the switch cannot physically go to that position. I also have a spare switch in my garage and that is the same, so how do you turn the bloody thing to intermittent

Can only assume that they`re both either broken or maybe off a Mk2 - actually no, cos it wouldn`t have the graphic! There should be 4 positions as you describe: off, up slow, up high, down for intermittent. Easy swap & I`m sure Martin will have thousands.
Edit:
It`s not something stupid like the steering column cover has been fitted incorrectly so it`s blocking movement. Nah - that would be far too easy!

Hi,
it's a long shot, but have you tried it with more force?

On my Capri it goes to intermittent position with much more higher force. Even few days after I bought it, I didn't know about this down position, until I saw pictogram on the switch. :-) On my other cars all position is in the same way and I didn't remember this down position from Granada Mk2/1, which we had when I was child.

Not that I drove in the rain, but thinking back mine did too the odd time I tested the wipers :)

+1 for that, I've had that issue on a car, when that posotion hasn't been used much, it needed a real go at it to move it, then it was ok from then on. Maybe investigate if it's clogged up and/or lubricate as suggested.

Yes, probably same reason on mine: lack of use. My car is from Spain, so there isn't much rain at all.
And like you say, first try after that years needed high force and then much better. ;) And rear washer pump was also stuck, when I bought the car. So I dismantled it and one rotation by hand solve the problem. Works fine now.

I love this forum, you always get the right advice from someone. Gave the switch a really good pull down, and I mean with a heavy hand as I was on the page of it will fix it or kill it. hey presto, the thing now works.

Thanks very much guys, another easy fix done
