rear wheels fowling arches
rear wheels fowling arches
Hi,
Recently purchased a 1.6 Laser with nice alloys (not RS) and the rear tyres fowl the rear wheel arches when driven over rough roads.
The tyre size is 205x60R13 x86H. They are recent new tyres and wheels so reluctant to change, rear shocks and springs appear ok .
Any advice please?

Re: rear wheels fowling arches
Are you sure there are no spacers behind the wheels to increase track? AFAIK the 2.8s had 205/60 so they should fit. Are they sticking out beyond the arches or just vertically too close? Pic would help.
Re: rear wheels fowling arches
A Steve says the 2.8 had that size tyre on the pepperpot wheels that were 7" wide, so should be ok!

As said, the size of the tyres won't be a problem in itself, but are they on aftermarket alloys?
What's the offset of those alloys?
Andrew.

I have 2.8 wheels with 205/60/13 on mine and they are fine ? I would say it’s your shocks or springs

Re: rear wheels fowling arches
As said by others you need to check the wheel offset. Additionally are there lowering blocks between the spring and axle - perhaps someone has seriously reduced the ride height?BSH wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 1:21 pm Hi,

Re: rear wheels fowling arches
The other thing I would check is has the previous owner stuck spacers on?

Re: rear wheels fowling arches
Are you sure contact between tyre and arch is the problem? Does it knock or does it make a sort of sound like a screechy bark?

If what you say is true, he'll need to ditch the steering wheel and get a proper yolk.Not_Anumber wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 6:01 pmThat car will fly when the clearance problem is sorted and the owner will be eggstatic

Could just be the tyres. Get rid of the Goodyear Eagles

Re: rear wheels fowling arches
Some photos and would help. Are you sure the wheels are the correct offset ?
Re: rear wheels fowling arches.
The wheels are 13x7.5j with 205x60x13 tyres
The rims have -19 mm offset,so obviously are two
wide.I was hoping to raise the rear suspension somehow or alternatively source the correct wheels.
