MK3 2.3 to 2.9i 12v

Post by mk3_silencer »

Hello everybody.

I've had my 2.3 for about 10 years now and managed to buy a donor 86 scorpio 2.9i ghia executive about a week ago.
I've looked over the 2.9i swaps and given the opportunity i decided to go for it.

Since nothing is every easy, this car hasnt been used for about 5 years (taxes here tripled for large engines) and now it sounds like the fuel pump is dead.
There's no noise when putting the ignition on.
I put a battery on it and the engine spins just fine, but no tickover.

The thing is, i need to move the car and being an automatic, doing so without the engine on isnt going to be easy.
Which brings me to my first question for you guys.

How do you unlock the gearbox to put it in Neutral without having the engine running?
I've removed the Gear lever trim and saw the stick pointing out but didnt quite feel like pulling on it before asking.

I hope someone here knows how to get through this so that i can reach the next pain in my pocket this conversion will bring :D

Cheers,
Dragos

BTW, i'm in Bucharest, Romania and this is one of the few (5 I think) mk3's in the city.

Is this the release lever?
I tried to move it around but it didn't want to move to much so I left it alone since it looks like plastic.

If you`re just worried about damaging the transmission by towing, just disconnect the prop?

Right, now that's some out of the box thinking.
I will use that as a last resort since its not really to disconnect the prop without raising the rear pretty high.
