Mk3 - 2.0 Laser (Venetian Red) - FOR SALE

Post by benmay100 »

Hi All!

As many of you may know from previous posts I own a MK1 3.0 V6 capri, and MK3 2.0 capri.

I've decided to purchase an RS2600 Capri (a life long dream for me) and sadly the net effect of this... is that my beloved Mk3 Capri is up for sale.

I’m only listing this here and on Capri Power at the moment (not to the wider market place) as to be honest ‘who’ buys it is more important to me than anything else.... I’ve owned the car since age 16 and restored it over many years with my Dad, so it is very sentimental to me.

What this means is ultimately I want it to go to a Capri enthusiast who will love and cherish it as much as I have over the years!!!

Some detail on the car:
- Originally a 1.6 laser (1986)
- When I bought it, she did need a fair bit of body work
- Welding and repairs were done to floors, a patch on the scuttle, A posts both sides, two new front wings, front valance and rear arches (all done around 10 years ago)
- Car still very solid (apart from few bits see below)
- Car was then painted in beautiful "Venetian red" and paintwork still looks fantastic

INTERIOR:
- I sourced a 2.0S interior which looks awesome (only thing here is its wearing thin drivers side bolster)
- Leather steering wheel from a 2.8i
- dash board is original and most importantly un-cracked !
- Original radio
- Original carpets and headlining (no tears)
- Does have a parcel shelf though is tatty
- Sun roof works well (handle not broken)
- All dash clocks work well

EXTERIOR / BODY WORK
- Venetian red (lovely Colour)
- Paint is very good with some small areas of bubbling on the lower body (have taken pictures of all so follow dropbox link below)
- Sits on JBW mini-lites (some slight pitting to the chrome edges on these if you get close)
- Headlights are halogen converted so brighter than sealed beam
- Unfortunately someone has put two decent sized dents into the door on one side (opening door into mine )
- Arches are all absolutely mint
- Underside very solid (apart from a few small bits - see below)
- Very nice, original ‘unadulterated’ look overall

ENGINE / ENGINE BAY
- 2.0 pinto engine was put in 10 years ago (has done 16,000 miles since full rebuild)
- head was ported and polished, better manifolds, upgraded camshaft and generally a ‘fast road’ set up.
- Very useable engine but really good fun.
- Engine bay is painted satin black and still looks pretty good
- Engine bays aren't often pretty... and I wouldn't say this one breaks that mould, but nothing of concern in here!

DRIVE TRAIN / SUSPENSION / BRAKES
- 5 speed type 9 box (all good no issues)
- standard brakes, twin chamber master cylinder... all working no issues (maybe worth bleeding though as car has sat for a while)
- atlas rear axle (non LSD) no diff whining or anything like that
- roller top mounts and lowered front springs
- rear springs are single leaf
- Spax adjustable shocks on rear
- larger anti roll bar up front
- Ashley exhaust system
- Have checked the tyres and even though it has sat they all look pretty good to me
- uprated in sensible areas but car remains a nice ride and very useable

AREAS THAT NEED SOME ATTENTION...
- As she hasn't had much use lately, I’d bleed and check over brakes and maybe check any rubber bushings... but from a quick look I can’t see anything that concerns me.
- Body work - there is a bit of paint bubbling in the usual areas... it's not really noticeable but maybe something you would want to get sorted
- Body work - the footwell on both sides needs welding (pictures give you the detail)
- Body work - small patch of surface rust in the engine bay (pics give you the detail)
- Body work - when you open the drivers door, the A post is "starting" to show some bubbling
- Windscreen has a stone chip
- Little scratch on the sun roof (did it straight after when it was painted when I was fitting it )

It is nice to see such comprehensive info on a car for sale, but I too couldn't spot how much you would like.
