Inner Wing Guards
Anyone know how these fit, or have them fitted? They were standard on some models. I assume the rubber edge butts up to the profile of the wing, but can't understand what secures it or what it fixes to.

Re: Inner Wing Guards
You are correct about the rubber edge fitting to the inside of the wing.
On the wing edge of the guard there is a hole, although on the repro items in your photo it looks like there is just a dimple that will have to be drilled out. That hole should mate with the little tab on the inside of the wing at the wheel arch.
That's the only fastening point on the outer edge of the guard. The inner edge should line up with a lip on the inner wing, and that is secured by three self tappers through the holes in the guard.
I hope that helps, but it's easier to explain with photos.
Andrew.

Not the best photos, granted, but they are the best I can do at the moment!
The two main fixing points:
The two uppermost holes of three in the lip in the inner wing (circled red):

Re: Inner Wing Guards
Hi Steve,
Yes, they are the upper two of the three inner fixings. There should be a third tab down much lower. They should align with the holes in the guards clearly shown in Paul's photo.

Cheers Andrew,
I see, - I thought they went the other way up: it all makes sense now!
The refurb seems to be coming along nicely.

And these will align with the main fixing tabs:
As I wrote previously, it looks as though the holes here will need to be drilled out.

Re: Inner Wing Guards
Yes, your info and pics are a superb help, thank you
Re: Inner Wing Guards
I had a couple of sets where the rubber didn't fill the gap properly and crud still got behind them.
Solved it by replacing the rubber with lengths of door seal, which is a bit fatter, but squashes up enough to fit.
Whatever you do, don't expect these to be 100% effective, still fill the gap behind with Waxoyl or something similar.
And it's also an idea to use hex head screws if you can. Positioned where they are, the screws will corrode and a hex head is much better to undo using a socket than a screw head that will easily round off as soon as the screwdriver gets within 6 inches of it!

Re: Inner Wing Guards
Thanks very much Martin, superb advice. I am quite sure that these would not fit perfectly on my car and that I'd have to alter things to some degree, it's one of the things I am worried about so your mention of using a door seal is excellent, never considered that.

Re: Inner Wing Guards
They are perfectly fine, thanks again, the guards have obviously worked well, your car is immaculate under there, perfect, like brand new (no doubt also due to the care and time you give to it), looking at cars like your and Nicks, the gulf between them and the vast majority of the other Capri's is very apparent, it's immense, soul destroying in a way. Good luck with your car and whatever jobs you are doing at the moment.Andrew 2.8i wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 8:50 pm Not the best photos, granted, but they are the best I can do at the moment!

Re: Inner Wing Guards
Very much so. If you don't mind, and if you can, please would you be able to take a picture of the lowermost fixing/bracket.

Re: Inner Wing Guards
Of course, no problem at all. It'll have to be tomorrow morning though, if that's OK?
