New addition..

Post by Major_Tom »

..Daisy's granny's car, she's given up driving. So Julie Ann bought her 260E!

Lots of car for £1000.. very torquey 2.6 engine..

Image

..wonderfully over engineered.. check out the two position hinge stays, for maximum open:

Bit nice and heavy for me, but lots of fun to cruise around in

..few eletrical issues amd minor niggles, but otherwise a bloody good lil motor! Or big motor really.. its huge!

Middle age is creeping up on you Tom.

You'll be sewing leather patches on the elbows of your cardigan next. :D

And of course, you'll need to change your name to Brigadier Tom (Ret'd)

I have to admit it's very well made. Done 140,000 miles, serviced at a Merc specialist its whole life. Only done 1,500 miles in the last three years and most of the issues it has seem to be disappearing the more it's driven.

One thing though is the sun visor clips have perished and disintegrated in the sun... never seen that happen to a good old Ford.

I like that. its a nice colour too, I wish people would order cars in nice colours these days instead of the endless monochromes you see everywhere.

Tell me about it. I first saw a Focus belonging to mjcapri in 'stealth grey' and thought it looked quite nice and interesting 2 - 3 years ago... fast forward to now and that, uh, "colour" is everywhere, on everything. I'm dashing sick of it, by cripes.

Yes it’s become a bit common for my liking too! I remember when the car was new it was actually quite shocking, when I ordered it even the sales guy thought I was “brave”. It’s by far the least common regular RS colour with 500 odd made, but these days you see similar colours everywhere. My orange Fiesta still stands out though.

Nice Merc, I don’t know if you remember but I once had a 300CE, I’ve always had a soft spot for old Mercs. Very over engineered as you say and a bit “soft” but great for cruising around in! :lowrider:

Yeah plus on a fast Ford it looked the business too... like stealth grey made sense as a concept. Seeing it on boring cars feels like an insult. When I rule the galaxy I'll put it right.

Yeah there's something nice about old school Mercs.. I've liked them ever since I was a kid and saw the second in command baddie in For Your Eyes Only driving around in one. It gets totalled in the end though:

Doesn't Bond push him over the cliff in it? One of Roger Moores tough moments as Bond, as opposed to endless eyebrows and wisecracks.

Yes that's right. That and brutally shooting Stromberg four times in Spy Who Loved Me were his coldest kills.

Good score Tom , they are fairly robust and a good cruiser . My Dad had a 450sel in that shape as the family car . There is a 280se (about the same age )that lives around here with a finarklin big dodge 6.7L v8 turbo diesel engine in it .......sounds like a fishing boat
