Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild

Both of those are sound ideas but I would just fit a twin choke 32/36 weber and inlet manifold as fitted to 2 litre models. If fitted with a 2 litre camshaft and a four branch exhaust manifold this combination should put it up to 85 -90 bhp which isn't far behind a 2 litre. It may need a rolling ro...

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild

Ok so anyone watching this thread I have a question. I am trying to keep this car original as possible but I have been looking at possible upgrades that may just be beneficial or available at the time. I am considering 1. An electronic ignition kit 2. Twin Webbers. I don't want to massively mod it b...

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild

Ok so finally managed to dig the old girl out from her tucked away hiding space tonight. https://s15.postimg.cc/5xwy127qz/20180626_190220.jpg She is now out in the open and ready to be worked on. I removed the bonnet tonight and have taken off the covering from the underneath. It was held in by an a...

P100 would be a great shout if you can get one. The days of cheap classics seem to be over. Unless cheap means 3-4k

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild

Cheers yeah unfortunately when I stripped the car I labelled up all the wiring and components however they didn't fair well and are no longer legible or have become detached altogether. This time I shall use a label printer or something. Luckily they are relatively straight forward cars though I'm g...

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild

Yeah I have just bought a big roll of bubble wrap. Been keeping boxes for ages for this. Well the gte is still there I'm waiting to see if it ever comes for sale. Although :D I need to make some room because I don't have much space left myself. I invested in a very cheap "sports car" that ...

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild

Ok so I have been slowly starting to make progress. I have started tackling jobs individually so that I'm not so overwhelmed with the task. I have been stripping rust from brackets and buying replacement parts for things that just didn't survive. I'm currently fabricating some new bumper brackets wh...

Re: Ebay Capri - You have to see this

Although I agree rust proofing is better i have seen five year old cars with rust and they have all been mercs. They seem to be wear ford were in the 80's. However i would rather have the capri over a focus any day because the focus will break down just as much and yet you can't work on it because i...

Re: 1984 Ford Capri 2.8i - Donated For Free

I would think that just going over it really well would be good enough because it's going to need a full respray anyway (I presume) and prepping for that would reveal 99% of it would think. Where abouts in Coventry are you? I'm in Allesley Cov and have 1600 in similar state of dress.

Re: wanted mk3 capri runner/non runner/project/shell etc

I'm unsure yet I am doing a lot of things myself to keep costs down but I'm looking to see what options are open to me when I get there. I would like to think I could sink 1k but it's more likely to be about 500 into a respray. Doing it myself seemed like a more financially viable option. But it com...

Re: wanted mk3 capri runner/non runner/project/shell etc

It's staying the colour it is which is graphite grey. I think my garage looks similar perhaps slightly narrower than yours (guessing by the pictures). I haven't done painting before but I am concerned by my budget or lack of so i suppose trying a bonnet first to try might be the answer. I have some ...

Re: wanted mk3 capri runner/non runner/project/shell etc

What paint do you use? I'm doing a 1600gl bare shell rebuild and considered doing the paint myself but worried that it 1 wouldn't look any good and 2 i only have a small garage and all the interior is in there. (Although that could be moved)
