Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild
Ok so I have started to tackle the front valance as it is rotten in the usual places. I did look online for a replacement :o I quickly decided that a replacement wasnt necessary and decided on reflection mine was repairable. Now I haven't done any panel forming before and this is a learning curve fo...

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild
Cheers took a couple of days to get it to this stage and I think I might take it back again and stretch the metal out a little more to get the crease line better but for a first attempt at panel repair i am quite pleased with it and the perfectionist in me enjoys the process

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild
Ok so a couple of updated images. I have started doing some work on the wing that was accident damaged and someone had covered in rough filler. Behind it was dented and a bit battered however tapped out quite well. It's not perfect yet but only a thin skin of filler was required to get to this stage...

Managed to get the bumper end brackets done and think they will look rather smart once painted up. Will con...

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild
Ok so just a quick update. I have been working on the bonnet leading edge and I know I was advised not to bother too much with the detail like the depressions for the bonnet trim but the perfectionist in me wanted to try to recreate it as original as possible so this has taken a little time and a li...

Re: Under bonnet leading edge
Blown with rust! From above, that's where the water runs off the bonnet channels & into the gap between plastic trim & bonnet in rain or when its washed. Here it will find its way into any paint defect or tiny rust spot etc. accelerating corrosion more than at other points. The bonnet front...

Under bonnet leading edge
I was hoping someone could possibly help me. I am going to repair my bonnet where the old tin worm has had a feast. It's under the front edge as all of them do. But I'm trying to find out how it should look. It has gone at the same point either side. It seems like it had a bulge possibly for drainag...

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild
Thanks chaps. Well I have been stripping the bonnet ready for repairs. The problem I have is that under the leading edge the old tin worm had created a couple of holes. Same position on each side and it looks like the was a bulge like it had some drain holes possibly? It might just have blown with t...

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild
Right here we go. The textured paint for my bumper ends arrived yesterday. It is pro tex https://s15.postimg.cc/xtnz6jgez/20180630_091113.jpg It has two nozzles one for fine texture and one for a rougher texture. I used the red one which is the finer texture. So starting with a Smooth surface this w...

It just Feels like a little achievement  to have completed a section of the car having had the car so long and for so long not been able to just crack on. (Note the older bolts and washers used here will be replaced when the new ones arr...

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild
They don't look too bad, just a little faded. If you spray with either normal black paint or Halfords flexible vinyl paint and apply in thin coats it should keep the texture nicely as well, has worked for me on two or three sets Cheers Danny Yeah I think the photo doesn't do it justice to how bad t...

And these look well past their best. I think this could be a lost cause but I have nothing to lose by trying to repair them.

Re: capri 1.6GL bareshell rebuild
Back in grey. Sanded down the bumper again after the reaction to the previous primer. It's taken well so hopefully we will be good this time
