Re: Confusion over wiring for starter motor
That`s really good - and thanks for the update, an awful lot of stories never get an ending, happy or otherwise!

Re: A bit of fun...
You mean the big round `inverted dish` thing in the middle? I think it IS needed as it limits upwards travel for the joint, it will hit the bottom of the rubber. Obviously, most of the time the weight of the `box is pressing downwards but on odd occasions, bumps etc, you dont want it to be jumping u...

Why not Nick, looks really smart that. I would say `the finishing touch` - but I doubt it will be

Re: M16 brake calipers
Only because, in theory, the fluid channel between the 2 halves *may* leak after reassembly - although I`m sure I read that it`s not really a problem. It can`t be that hard can it?

Re: fuel pump
Have you tried taking the petrol cap off and listening for a hiss? It is possible that the tank vent is blocked and creating a partial vacuum to pull the fuel back through. Excellent!!!! I would never have thought of that: see how important it is that people such as yourself Martin, continue contri...

Re: Fuel issue
I think that`s about the same as the mechanical pump, but obviously it will have filled the float by the time you turn the starter, problem solved!. (You don`t want too much pressure for a carb as it could cause flooding if needle valve`s not 100%)
Re: fuel pump
They all have to have non return valves, that`s how they work. Diaphragm goes up, sucks in, through inlet valve . Diaphragm goes down, inlet valve closes, 2nd, outlet valve allows fuel out. Repeat. Some, like the genuine Ford AC ones have rubber seals around valve which work better: the Pierburg for...

Re: Should I be concerned about the difference in Spring Height?
FYI, I have good used original Laser springs, they are 34cm high. New aftermarket, standard rate and height, are 37cm so to keep your ride height with 145 springs they would need to be shorter than that. (if original were, say 115lb, then the 145s will need 30% more weight to `deflect` or squash by ...

Re: Should I be concerned about the difference in Spring Height?
It would be useful if you could measure the heights? If the new springs are both longer AND stiffer then it really must sit higher. They will, of course, compress somewhat - but at 145lbs they will compress LESS than the standard ones. Assuming your old ones ARE standard , not lowered? Measure them....

Re: Using Metal Weld On Diff Cover?
if a 10mm socket is a bit loose, do you have any imperial ones, (3/8" is about 9.5mm) that may be a tighter fit?

Re: Using Metal Weld On Diff Cover?
Can only be short term, maybe till next year, as the hot oil will work its way underneath in time, plus new pinholes will appear unless you`re really fastidious about preparing the surface. A bit like patching exhausts, it`s usually better to just bite the bullet and replace.

Re: Stuck Inner TCA Bolt/ Balljoint Nut
I believe the correct way is as you have it. Yes, the manuals seem quite insistant about that - but I`ve never understood why? The arm moves up as much as it moves down so it can`t be there`s more torque in one direction. it just doesn`t make sense, certainly I`ve always done as you suggest & r...

Re: Stuck Inner TCA Bolt/ Balljoint Nut
As far as thhe steering rack goes, I know it`s a bit of a squeeze, but I`m sure the bolts can normally be removed without THAT much trouble. I assume you`ve tried moving the steering in case it`s hitting the inner joint or something. If you can get a grinder/thin cutting disc in the space, cut the e...

Re: The car in front is a Toyota
Noel, it was a 2006 but he can`t remember the mileage I`m afraid. (She`d driven to work, all fine, starts it up to go home and it sounds like the downpipe`s snapped. In broad daylight, at the roadside, they`d jacked it up and whipped the cat. I remember a few years ago, they broke into the Arnold Cl...

Re: Reverse Light Plug
:agree: As Paul says. I`m not exactly new to this but I spent several hours looking at workshop manuals, Haynes etc, trying to figure out why my plug looked nothing like in the pictures. Eventually realizing that 1/2 the switch was still stuck in it! If you can find the disc, the only internal parts...
