Hi Mate...many moons ago I suffered a similar problem...It turned out that there was a hairline crack in the cylinder head between the inlet and outlet valves on one of the pistons...The car was okay when cold because the crack sealed itself,however as it warmed up the crack expanded and compression...

Doesn't matter if its a 2.8 or not..for the expansion tank to be of any benefit the radiator cap on the rad needs to be the flat type..or else how will water flow back and forth...

Hi Mate,Have you checked the Rad Caps are the right way around...A flat non pressurised one (No spring Olb pressure ) should be on the rad and the pressurised one (With spring 13lbs) on the expansion bottle.Its been done the wrong way around many times before
