Re: How thick

Usually 1.1 mm thick if I remember right. Following advice on the other forum that's what I've used on mine and it's gone in OK.

Re: Causes for misfire on Pinto engine

I assume your car is a 1979 1.6GL. The squeal on start up would be the fan belt. It either needs tightening up a bit or repacing. The misfire could be several things though. A 1.6GL would not be fitted with an idle control valve, that is usually only fitted to fuel injection cars. You say that you h...

Re: we buy any car

.
Never been a huge BMW fan, my Dad had a 55 plate 320d, I sold it as soon as he died as I couldn't get on with it..... I prefer the E30/36 if I had to have one. My mate loves them and has a '98' M3, '96' 328 Track Car, '95' 325 Pick up, and several E36's scattered around for breaking.[/quot...

Re: we buy any car

On the subject of irritating car adverts, now the rental people are getting in on the act. As if Enterprise weren't bad enough with their supposedly amusing interplay between the American and British reps, now Sixt have taken advertising annoyance to the next level. So what if you can rent a BMW fo...

Re: Valves on last thread

Hi all, I've bumped this thread up again as I've been helping James this morning to get the head off the car. The head is one that was supplied by Tickover about 10 years ago and has been converted for unleaded - ie hardened valve seats. As James said in an earlier post, the adjuster on no 1 exhaust...

Re: 3.0s. On eBay

I thought it only fair to e-mail the dealer as they seem a genuine company, with the concerns raised so that they may have some redress with the seller. Sent him a few photo's & a link to the Black one on auto trader, strangely they both came from the same sale & the seller being a film com...

Human nature Peter, we all look for the difficult answers when something ten bob to fix is staring us in the face! Glad it's OK now.

Re: Not a Capri......

Thats still good money, but nothing compared to what Capris go for like you say. Kinda wish i had kept my old 2.0 Sapphire now...it was a long time ago...i think it was a "1000e" type variant of some kind, or something like that. .
That would have been a 2000E. It was a limited ed...

Re: Not a Capri......

That looks like a real nice example of a 4X4. They were cracking cars and still are today. Never owned a 4X4 but had a 2 year old 1.6L in 1985, a 2.0GL in 1988 and a 3 dr Cossie in 1989 which I had for 6 weeks then it was nicked. Gave up and bought a Merc 190E after that! The last Sierra i owned was...

Re: 4 bonnet rubber blocks mk3

You can also get them from Tickover, about £8 each ex vat - http://www.tickover.co.uk/shop/contents/en-uk/d218.html Burton Power do them too, just over £9 They are expensive these things aren't they. I seem to remember them being about £4 30 years ago from Ford. If they're £8 now that doesn't seem ...

Re: 3.0s. On eBay

It's certainly a lovely looking car but Gary (Lord Flasheart) is right in saying that it's not a 3.0S shell. He should know - he owns and rebuilt the cobalt blue 3.0 Ghia that was on the meglieurs stand at the Classic Car Show and featured several times in CCi magazine. As far as I can see it doesn'...

Plenty of them were sent to another instructor to get a long weight, as well as a tub of elbow grease, a glass hammer and a tin of tartan paint.

The number of students I had that followed these instructions to the letter, got the car jacked up etc, then realised they hadn't loosened the wheel nuts beggared belief! I suppose they only ever make that mistake once though! Andrew. Unfortunately not! It got to the point that I would make them ja...

Re: Wanted any capri mk1/mk2/mk3 projects.

I think you would be extremely lucky to get a complete car for that sort of money. Parts specialists are paying more than that for complete unrestorable breakers.

Keep looking, you never know, but I would think you would have to increase your budget even for a wreck.

Re: Ratchet Axle Stands

I bought an SCS compressor and have been very pleased with it. It came with a load of freebies like an air ratchet and impact gun, all of which seem to work fine. They also regassed my Capri tailgate struts and supplied new ones for my SD1 Vitesse's bonnet. The axle stands look a good buy. Personall...

Footman James. Amazingly cheap if it's a classic I have limited myself to 2000 miles which is plenty for me, and put a value of £7000. I will probably have to get this value confirmed but thought I would start off high  All the best Nick Nick, I'd have thought your car was worth more than that...

Re: Alternator troubles

It's a strange one, the joys of old cars. I would certainly clean up again all the alternator terminals as well as cleaning and checking the engine earths and also clean up the connections on the starter motor.

Finally, are the battery terminals clean and tight?
