Re: The Electric Vehicle experience..

It's all a bit nonsensical, Britain accounts for 1% of global carbon emissions. There are 3 coal fired power stations here. China has 1,081. But that's fine Tom, China make everything for us so they get to be exempt. Also, most EV manufacturers are based in China and make all the batteries in EV fo...

Re: The Electric Vehicle experience..

I wonder if there will ever come a time when the Police have an all-electric fleet? If they do, it'll be easy for criminals to evade them, should the need arise. They simply need to get them involved in a 90+ mile car chase while driving a petrol-powered car and the police cars will all run out of ...

Re: 2.8i throttle sticking?

Have you checked the fitting on top of the throttle housing, these are very prone to wearing and creating a problem. If you mean the bit that attaches to the pedal, I did have a look at it and it all appeared to still be OK and connected, possibly a bit loose I thought though... The cable is only a...

Re: 2.8i throttle sticking?

Wasn't stuck on the carpet at all, but cleaned up the throttle linkages and the sort around the carb with some WD40 and a toothbrush and so far it's all working as it should (so far!)

From memory I think the Haynes lists a standard pinto engine at about 1050-1100kg?
Blimey, that's a heavy engine ! :)

With Tom's lack of seats, and a holey floor I'd guess even less

I've always wondered how exactly this cheap sandwich finished it off??
Maybe the car was gluten intolerant and therefore was killed off by the gluten in the bread.
I think that's the most likely scenario

Re: The Cars Your Dad Dreamed Of Driving

One of the most curious list of cars I think I've ever seen grouped together

Obviously the Sierra, Golf GTI, Renault 5 I can understand, but a Honda Accord? A Peugeot 406? Two different versions of it no less! Who ever really wanted one of those??

Re: 2.8i throttle sticking?

Thanks for the replies guys, will go and check tonight that it's not the carpet, and if it isn't I guess I'll just buy a new cable?

Cheers

Re: Who's laughing now....

Surely though, someone somewhere realises that classic car ownership generates a fair old wedge for the economy in several different ways and therefore it is in their interest to keep them on the road? Car shows, the copious amounts of fuel we use, the spares/parts, garage/repair costs, whole restor...

Re: 2.8i throttle sticking?

Good luck finding the carb on a 2.8i (assuming that is what you have?) Often the culprit (on the 2.8i) is a build up of crud on the sliding quadrant on top of the throttle body (you will have one of those :D ) A good spray of WD40 and a brushing off may well be all it needs, before you go any furth...

Re: 2.8i throttle sticking?

Finally found the problem. The cable was being squashed slightly between the the bonnet deadening material and the strut brace. Hi, A nice easy fix, and something for others to watch out for. Andrew. Mine has just started doing this yesterday - was interesting as I tried to slow down for a rounabou...

Re: Who's laughing now....

how many people will be driving a 40 year old car these days and be willing to use it for work? I advocate it on a daily basis to my colleagues! I drive either of the capris or the Fez and whenever someone has car issues it always ends up costing them a mint, but is comparatively cheap as chips for...

Re: 2.8i fuel sender unit leak from terminal

The quality does not match price. It’s taking me more than double the price of the item to correct it. That’s not considering the previous guy spent 130 quid on the same brand new club item. They need to look at this. Good luck explaining that to John Hill, I would be most interested to see his res...

Twelvnarf quid, bloody hell , times that by 5 days a week and its a solid fuck me ! Is this like congestion tax ? or similar. Be good to see the place riddled with classic cars tho I think Congestion charge is on top of this (??) Think the idea is to encourage people to buy cars that pollute less a...

Re: Windscreen Woes

So do you currently have the larger screen with the wider/ later rubber then? I was under the impression that an MK1 seal, with a larger screen would fit fine in an MK3 shell, but it seems anything but. The rubber in my picture is definitely thinner than my old rubber which had the smaller screen i...

Welcome to the page! Do you mean this type of fuel filter? ebay.co.uk/itm/224459316894?hash=item3442d15e9e:g:29MAAOSwZrxffMyC I used to have one of these on mine which did the job, just had a jubilee clip on each end to make sure the hoses didn't pop off. I've since taken mine off entirely and have ...
