Interior Re-trim

Post by Fordoholic Nick »

Hi all.

So yesterday finally the day came for me to pop down to Mike at MT Trimmers in. Poole to collect my seats and door cards he has fully re-trimmed for me.

The seats are just incredible with the replica Orange Carla material I sourced coupled with the Black vinyl Mike supplied. Perfect combination. His level of detail is amazing. Little things no one would notice but he does !! Im just blown away by how stunning they look !!

I gave Mike a big challenge when I asked him if he could strip my door cards right back and custom make replica early S cards. Well he rose to the challenge and the results speak for themselves. Absolutely stunning. The rear quarter cards now have no armrests and the ashtray is much lower down in the cards compared to the later ones . Absolutely stunning.!! We both thought the front cards would look much sleaker without refitting the speakers and I love the simplicity of them. I still have the rear speakers which suit me fine listening mainly to Talksport.

The biggest challenge for Mike was to recreate the "metal" trim on the cards. I did not realise the original were in fact plastic and heat applied onto the cards at time of build so trying to find these trims is pretty much impossible. So he teamed up with his fabricator mate to set about fabricating these trims from metal. Took a few runs to get them to the correct and exact shape they were both happy with and i have to say they are absolutely perfect ! !! Mike's not custom made cards like these before so I was well chuffed he designed and built these for me and he now has templates to use in the future.!!

I got some really nice chrome window winder handles to fit and with Black armrests now these will finish then off a treat.

I will post up photos when I get around to fitting everything. Hopefully by Christmas

Anyway here's some photos of Mike's amazing work.

That is an absolute top job Nick, Mike has done a beautiful job. I may contact him in the future to repair my Carla recaros which just need a repair on the black cloth of the driver's backrest and the piping redone on both fronts.

Thanks very much Paul. The seats are better than I ever imagined they would be mate even though Mike sent me many photos as he progressed. The replica Carla I sourced Mike said is prob the best replica he's seen both for design and quality. Ever so slightly darker than the original but its just gorgeous. The door cards are just amazing. He really is a top notch trimmer/upholster mate. He does alot of repair jobs all the time alongside his bigger jobs so he'll get your recaros looking great.!!! I was always going to get him to do my recaros as he knows them so well. His fantastic White 3.0S was parked up at the back of his workshop so i had a good look over that inc the lovely original brown recaro interior ❤️ Thanks again Paul

Looks alright, I suppose.

Just kidding! Both the seats and door cards look amazing and clearly the work has been been done to a very high standard. Just as well, as you wouldn't be satisfied otherwise.
It would be good to see some photos once your leisurely reconstruction is complete. :D
