I don't know of any painter who would accept you supplying the paint and doing your own prep. How would they be able to guarantee their work under those circumstances. I know that if I suggested that to my guys there would be a very short answer.
Good quality materials, labour and booth time isn't cheap, anyone who tells you different hasn't got a clue.

Totally agree with you - it just isn't cheap anymore for this kind of work. I have just been quoted 2k possibly more for outer sill replacement x 2, rear wheel arches x2, rear valence and 2 x lower rear corners. This does not include painting just blending and primer. Seems pretty reasonable to me, what do you guys think?
Phil at CapriCare MK has just quoted me about a grand for the exact same welding you've mentioned, not discussed paint costs yet but £2k for the lot seems alright to me

For reference I bought all the panels myself which came to about £350/400?

As long as the person doing the work does it to a good standard. If it needs doing, you might as well get the job done properly. I dare say you could get a cheaper quote, but if the work isn't up to scratch then the same work could need doing again in a few years time.

Andys auto body in Rochester, Kent. 2k is pretty good - it's a lot of work plus who knows what horrors await behind the panels....I don't care about paint, it's the rust I want gone, multi coloured paint won't kill her but rust will get the job done! lol

My mate with the body shop reckons if you allow between £300 to £500 per panel just for paint you wont be far off. The lower figure is if it needs minimal prep and the higher figure if there is minor repairs needed. Obviously if glass and or bumpers need to be removed that is extra but it should give you an idea of what you should expect to pay. At the other end he is doing a Volvo T5 at the moment that they stripped of all paint first and will leave looking almost factory fresh is going to cost the owner close to £12k and it needed only minor repairs
