Re: ULEZ advice
It wouldn't be mint for long getting bashed around on the streets of London. Probably be parked at the roadside too so picking up dents and scrapes as well as rust.
Worries me a bit that people think getting a classic is a way round ULEZ, the CO readings would go up and Ghengis Khan would find another way of bashing the legitimate caring owners that live within the ULEZ zone.
If I( lived in London I'd move out.

Re: ULEZ advice
I think I posted about this on here last couple of months or so...
Someone in the XR owners club has and X reg car and he was getting fined. Turns out you have to inform them that your car is tax/mot exempt as they won't get the info from DVLA themselves

Re: ULEZ advice
THe irony of this idea of using a 40 year old car to avoid ULEZ, is that if you just want a car thats compliant, there are thousands built since about 2001 that comply, and won't cost you 13 grand.
Re: ULEZ advice

A majority of people wouldn't be able to live with a classic car, as not enough creature comforts/tech they are used to.

Re: ULEZ advice
What reg date is yours Nick?
You can only register a vehicle with the DVLA as historic in the April following the car reaching 40. So for my June 83 Capri I have to wait until April 2024.
Therefore I have to pay ULEZ for the next 6 months or so.
That'll be £25 this weekend as I am using it Friday and Sunday. Buggared if I am taking it off the road.

Re: ULEZ advice
I am not 100% sure of this fact so happy to be corrected, but when I was researching driving to Heathrow it said you are charged each time you are in the ULEZ. so if you are inside it and drive out in the morning, then back into it in the evening that's two charges!Noel wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 1:15 pm What reg date is yours Nick?

London should be walled off from the rest of reality.

Re: ULEZ advice
I had to Google ulez .....that sucks . I bet if you consider the whole carbon footprint ( or what ev you call it ) of a modern Lecky vecky they would be worse than most classics , but hey , can't charge the pious gits sittin on a pile of Li-po batteries so once again the honest minority get screwed. I spose it's hard to beat the anpr cameras. I'd get all spiteful and shop elsewhere.
Am I understanding correctly that there is provision for classics ( 40+years ). We have that here but it's more Rego and Acc levies . Like my 89 Ducati cost me nearly 600 bucks to register for a year where as my 74 Guzzi cost 80 bucks for the same thing .

Re: ULEZ advice
A good friend of mine who lives in Harefield is doing just that together with his company. All but a couple of his employees live outside the zone anyway so they are all happy with the move as well.
His new office is going to cost less so its win win.
I wonder how many other companies are doing that?

Make it a 100ft high wall and throw all the dinghy arrivals from Calais in there too!

Re: ULEZ advice
Please excuse my ignorance as I can't be bothered to look up the answer.
Do people have to pay the ULEZ charge only for going into the zone from the outside of it, or does the charge also apply to driving a non-compliant car within the zone?
If the former is true, that stinks. If it's the latter that stinks even more!
Andrew.

Re: ULEZ advice
It's the latter mate. ANY noncompliance vehicle driving inside needs to pay £12.50. but I'm sure you only pay the one charge per 24hrs so can drive as much ss you want in or out.Andrew 2.8i wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 1:41 pm Please excuse my ignorance as I can't be bothered to look up the answer.

Re: ULEZ advice
Is that one charge for a rolling 24 hour period or by day?Fordoholic Nick wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 1:56 pm but I'm sure you only pay the one charge per 24hrs so can drive as much ss you want in or out.
If you were to drive within the zone at, say, 9 PM and again at 9 AM the next day, would you have to pay once or twice?
I can see plenty of people accidentally falling foul of this charge.
Andrew.

It resets at midnight so if you are doing a late event (such as an evening out or a night shift) and come back after midnight that is two charges.
