Fuel and temperature gauge

Post by caprobe »

Hi everyone, when I start the capri, after a few minutes the petrol and temperature gauges both rise to maximum, any ideas? Thanks

Almost certainly it will be the voltage regulator behind the dash. This provides a regulated 5v supply to the fuel & temp gauges. It may just be a bad earth where it plugs into the PCB, (which can cause the o/p voltage to rise)or it may be failing. If it`s suddenly shooting up to 12v I`d say you need anew regulator. It can be repaired at home if you can solder (it`s just a standard 7805 chip) I think someone hs done a write up on here before?
