To back up an argument
Can someone let me know when the first ever Capri Laser was registered? Was at a car show and there was a Laser on an A plate, owner stated it was first registered August 83, I was led to believe the Lasers didn't hit our roads till late 84, early 85 on a B plate, never seen an A reg Laser ever.
Re: To back up an argument
From Wikipedia;
"From November 1984 onwards, the Capri was sold only in Britain, with only right hand drive cars being made from this date. The normally aspirated 1.6 and 2.0 variants were rebranded with a new trim level – "Lasers" – which featured a fully populated instrument pod, leather gear lever, leather steering wheel, four-spoke alloy wheels as used on the S models, an electric aerial and colour-coded grille and mirrors.
The very last Laser Capri came off the line in November 1986, painted in a unique "Mercury Grey" colour. This car was registered on 8 May 1987 in Sussex and is to be found in a collection of classic cars in Gillingham, Kent."
Far from an expert, and like you I thought Lasers were B reg onwards, and I'm not aware of an A reg!
An 'S' or 'LS' maybe

Re: To back up an argument
The Lasers were in the June `84 catalogue and price list, so there could well have been some on an A plate.

Re: To back up an argument
To start with the Laser was going to be a limited edition, just as were the Escort Laser and Sierra Laser. Production started in about May 1984 and my Laser registered 1August 1984 has a May build code EC so must be one of the first. I have seen an A reg one and I think it was decided that the Laser would be made a stand alone model around August 84.

Re: To back up an argument
B reg was released August 84 and the Laser launched in June 84 so assume possible to have got one in those couple of months rather than wait?

Bloody hell, my Laser is a very early one. Does anyone know at what chassis no they started at?
My 2.0 S was also registered on 1st August 84, same day as the Laser, but it was built in Feb 84 so was run out old stock I guess.

B112 was first registered early Oct 84 with a build date of Sept 84 iirc so next year becomes 40 yrs old
But I'll have to wait till 1st April 2025 to enjoy tax exemption....

Re: To back up an argument
I've never seen an A-registered Laser, although I am aware that they exist. I'm come quite close though, as the earliest Laser I've ever seen is this one, registered on the same day as Paul's car, the very first day of B registrations, 1st August 1984.
