Sunroof - What Can Happen

Post by pbar »

This was at a rally/show I went to recently. The car was actually put in the auction and reached £1200, which wasn't enough for the seller/owner. Scary at what can happen to a sunroof.

Judging by the pics, I think £1200 was good  Most owners/sellers want too much for their cars now :(

There was an XR4i at a show on Sunday, average condition and the owner wanted £11k :o

With current prices it was worth £5k all day long, a few years ago half that.

I’m very much of the opinion that prices are what they are; old Fords are valuable (which can be both good and bad). That Sierra however isn’t worth a lot more than £1200, in fact I wouldn’t even pay that personally.

Whilst it’s generally very difficult to buy a car, restore it and recoup your money (and that’s never been my aim), surely some consideration has to be given to the purchase cost, restoration cost and final value? Unless buying for parts that one doesn’t remotely stack up!

£1200 is quite reasonable for that !

Seriously though, I suppose if somebody has their own bodyshop and doesn't factor in their own labour costs, it would be worth restoring the Sierra.

It's quite an eye-opener as to what can happen if corrosion isn't attended to early on.

It could certainly be done, but you’d have to REALLY want the challenge to pay over £1k for it. With that amount of corrosion (and that’s just what we can see!) it’s worth more as a sum of its parts, sadly.

Edited to add that it’s on eBay and they want £3k. Twice that will buy you a very tidy example….

Low mileage or not I would rather buy this for £6k https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134146773667 ... SwwVJiXAdf I have seen this car in person and it is a good example you can use as is

According to the description, the car is a motorcycle :headscratch:

Thanks for the replies. I did hear it running as the owner took into into the show ring, it did sound good actually and I had a brief chat with him and he said it runs well it's just all the other work which needs doing. A few more pics from the same rally, the first one being the Sierra interior -
