Window winder handles
Call me OCD but is there a correct position for the window winder handles when the windows are closed. Both of mine are in a different position and I am sure I have read somewhere that there is a position.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Window winder handles
It's an interesting question actually, I guess there will have to be a survey of sorts where we all post our positions and the mean average will be it! I'll check mine later.

Re: Window winder handles
A good way to find out would be to look in the sales brochures.
I'll have a look later when I've got a bit of time.

Re: Window winder handles
That is a great question , I will answer that as I have always made the winder up when shut or open ! Why I here you ask , my leg leans over on to the door card and the winder pushes in to my leg if the Handel is down . So I adjust it to be up .
Great question , I can now see myself doing the passengers side so it the same both sides

Re: Window winder handles
I've had a look through the brochures I've got and the winder handles most commonly are in the 7 o'clock position when the windows are closed.
Although there is enough variation in positions to make me think that, perhaps, they weren't set in a predetermined position at the factory.
One thing is certain though, the handles would have been in the same position on both sides.....
Andrew.

Re: Window winder handles
You would think 12 o'clock when closed would be good, but they were probably just put on in any position.
As mentioned above both doors have to be the same

My passenger side is at 19.00hrs but my drivers side is at 12.00 so it does not dig in my leg

They can obviously be adjusted to suit the individual's seating position. Also depending on the person's height.

Re: Window winder handles
Interestingly they are supposed to be in a position so that the weight of the handle keeps them closed according to some other forums on some other makes of cars.
I know when my new Transit was delivered about 15 years ago I was impressed to see they were both in exactly the same place at about 8 oclock.
Good thought about the brochure, I hadnt thought of that one. All the pictures look they are supposed to be at between 10 and 11. I will get the screwdriver out and adjust them.

Re: Window winder handles
Yep , your ocd .......really ? . What if you dont want the window right up or down, handle could wind up ( gettit ....wind up )anywhere . With the window open an inch the air flow thru the demister is improved.
Some fool fitted 6"speakers to my doors ( it was me ) and now the speaker grills are cheese grating my knuckles when I wind the windows up or down .
I think Jason has the best answer ( cant believe I just said that ). This is another plus for having my right leg chopped off above my knee.........down side is that if Im not careful I can accidentally kneel on my dick ......boxer shorts are out
Sometimes I talk to myself ... and we both have a good laugh

Hi,
I went through all my Capri brochures on PC and on 90% of interior shots handles are in the 7 o'clock position, like it was said here before.

This is from the MK3 Brochure. Is this window open or closed?

Re: Window winder handles
Actually it's a good question, if they took photos with open or close windows...
Here are pictures from brochures and articles from 80's and most of them is in the 7 o'clock position on right door (or 5 o'clock on left door). On my car it's same, but I can't guarantee that anybody put it off and back in same position in past.
But there is one picture which isn't from brochure and it is 2.8i Special, one owner, and only 582 miles from new. On 99.999% nobody put handles off on this car and drivers (right door) handle is in 7 o'clock position.
