The rubber seal should be supplied with the gasket set.

Make sure you have been supplied the correct 82 degree thermostat, as some motorfactors will supply an incorrect one.
Capri specialists will know what's what and will supply the correct part.

Thanks for the reply it’s a learning curve with the capri and I want to get it right because it was getting hot after about 15 mins of running but I found a few blockages on the small hose connections , so hope all will be well when it’s back together

Hi , good on you for having a go . If you have had some blockages it may pay to give your cooling system a bit of a flush out....specially if it full of rusty looking water instead of nice clean coolant. If you have a garden hose with a good water supply thats probly all you need . I usually undo hoses and shove the garden hose in so it pushes water in the opposite direction ( reverse flush ) thru various parts of the system. And do it somewhere where rusty water pouring out wont get you shot coz its bloody hard to get off concrete or cobble driveways .
I am not familiar with the 2.8 but if there are any tricks to flushing this motor some other brain box will probly give up their secrets ..........we are like that
Something else we like is to hear how you get on after the job is done.......even if nothing goes wrong and it all seemed a bit ho hum

The seal with the square profile fits between the thermostat and where it sits on the block. I'm not sure about the o ring. Is it the same size as the other seal?Shadyshent wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 2:51 pm Thanks any advice is useful and thanks for your time , when I took the old stat out there was no rubber o ring on it but the new stat has 2 on o ring and a square edge rubber but not sure where they go ?

Morning Tom thanks for the info the stat is back on now but before I refilled water I noticed that the hose that goes from the from the top of the block to the back of the thermostat needs replacing so have ordered one but it was a pig to get off so was wondering if you had any tips to replace it , it looks impossible cheers

Re: Thermostat replacement on a 2.8 injection
I don't have a 2.8 so can't help on the hose, but just wanted to check about the O ring you mentioned - I've had to change mine recently and the thermostat came with a piece of rubber around the edge of it - if that is what you mean then you need to take that off before fitting in the car
