The Ford Capri Laser Page

There are a lot of overpriced, and silly priced cars around, some very strange prices. Some members on here such as Andy, Jason and Andrew really have their ears to the ground on finding them, much has been said on here in the cars for sale section, always interesting to see.

But what about the other end of the scale? Just wondering really, what are the cheapest ones you can buy, a car ready to drive I mean, with an MOT (if applicable), and in roadworthy condition. Other than that, any model in any condition.

So, what's the word on ths street as regards to the cheaper cars for sale?

I'm talking about proper cars!

That’s a good question as I was watching somebody on you tube or TV talking about pre war cars that are not making the money they did a few years ago ,
Rovers seem to be still available at good cheap prices , MG-TF have stuck around the £1000 pound mark for some time as the Pumas accept the 17 race edition.
My eldest was looking at getting a Mazda MX5 as a little weekend runaround / track car as you can get them around the 2k price .
Back to 70s / 80s ford the mk1 & MK2 Escorts have just gone up and up , John Hills son buys left hand cars and sells them at strong prices .

But when I do look at modern cars on autotrader , cars with 150 thousand miles are making strong money , as end of life cars are still selling .

I'm quite heavily into BMW Z4s now, specifically the first (E85) model. I can pick up rough ones needing work for a couple of grand and sell them on with all new suspension, brakes etc at a profit. Though the fun is in the tinkering for me.
However, the UK market's obsession with 100 thousand miles is laughable in this case. The straight 6 engine in these cars, with proper maintenance, will go on well past 250k.
I think it's time the British public woke up to the fact that engineering has moved on a little and they are worrying about nothing.
The lowest mileage Z4 I've bought had 98k on the clock when I first got it and I was fighting off buyers. I currently have two, both on 112k and people waiting for me to finish them.
That said, if you like the idea of a Capri-like long bonnet, big engine and RWD then picking up one of these roadsters for £3k is possible and I can recommend it for the fun it'll give you.

Just FFS forget the 100k thing!!!

Although they are increasing, certain Sierra models can still be had for well under £5000.

I'm on my second one, they are a good drive and quite a comfortable car for the money, and depending on the spec maybe a few options included

I have a Mazda RX8 as a track day car and the total including buying the car, fitting harnesses, sorting brakes and a decent set of track day tyres still comes in at under £1500.

That’s a good price I not sure if he has looked at RX8s but mazda stuff still seems a reasonable price

Thanks for the replies. I've seen a few Capri's in the mid single figure thousands range, and that coupled with the prices mentioned does seem to indicate that it is still possible to enjoy Capri/classic ownership at a non extortionate cost, which is good to know. Lower priced cars do interest me more than those at tens of thousands of pounds which we seem to be seeing more of at the moment, assuming those are all legit of course!

I think it's just the luck of finding them cheap really - my laser was my first car 10years ago and my dad paid £1200 for it, the GL got pulled out of a barn and I paid £400 for it, and the S was £1000 because it had been stuffed into the Armco, but personally I'm quite happy to have three capris and have saved myself quite a bit of cash compared to the stupid proces you see on certain Facebook posts demanding 10k+ for one

That's more like it. Nice one Andy, all these massive prices we see are very disheartening, good to see a more affordable and realistic one.

Paul, it's good to see some sellers pricing sensibly.

The ones that are for sale for weeks/months on end, must tell them they are priced too high Some models are never going to be worth it!
