Re: How much ?
£17k on top of purchase price
It's very clean, but for that cost I thought it was going to be concours until I watched it.
Being original paint I wouldn't touch it, but that hole on the hinge def needs sorting, unless it's going to sit indoors for another 10 years.
The other scabs etc don't look nice but if you want to keep it original I suppose you leave them.

Re: How much ?
With that paint bubbling around the hinge and sunroof, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot more going on below the surface that would need attention before long.
That capri looks great overall, however, they'd be lucky if they even get the purchase price back at the auction let alone what has been spent on it above that.
And what the heck has the money been spent on if it wasn't paint and body work?
Andrew.

If that owes them nearly £30k, good luck.Andrew 2.8i wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 7:56 amWith that paint bubbling around the hinge and sunroof, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot more going on below the surface that would need attention before long.

As you say if it had been a nut and bolt rebuild I could see where a lot of money had gone, but this doesn't add up

Re: How much ?
Unbelievable.
I've never seen one with rust round the tailgate hinges, crikey how do they rust there?
Like the description of the sunroof rust blisters as an "easy" fix, christ talk about selling it up for the auction.
If all this shit was easy it would have been done before going in the sale.

Re: How much ?
Spent £17K on it??? Even an engine, gear box and diff refurb would struggle to cost that I think and if they had done this, then surly he would have mentioned this instead of saying its only got a few thou on it... I can't see they've done anything and nothing is mentioned... I think he means they bought 9 tubs of this
2K compound by jon tay, on Flickr
and had half a tub left over!!!
Where has the money been spent. Did they buy an absolute basket case for £12K then??? I can't wait to see the program mentioned to see how they spent this money, should be amazing viewing... Cheers,
John...
P.S. this is just my opinion of course...

The guy narrating it simply sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about.
I did spot the door frame seals were in place - thanks to Andrew I can see myself checking every Capri I come across for those now!

Re: How much ?
The one from the forwardmost end of the driver's door is missing. You can see the glue residue where it was.
Clearly, part of the £17K refurb cost was not spent on the CCI reproduction seals !

Come-on, he spotted the 'washer bottle' didn't have any blue fluid in it.... And he has a Capri too you know....
Door frame seals, I missed that.....
Re: How much ?
I think its Dave one of the sons narrating.
The coolant overflow tank is empty, the washer bottle is on the o/s wing
Many comments on the video aren't that good re; money spent!

Re: How much ?
Thread resurrection alert !!
This car is mentioned in the June CCI mag.
The show the Capri features in is a spin-off of Bangers and Cash called, imaginatively, Bangers and Cash; Restoring Classics.
Apparently, each featured car is bought from Mathewsons, restored by a professional restoration company (in this case The Motorist) and then re-entered into a later auction. Presumably each car is sold at a huge loss.
Part of the show is a section where club members and fellow owners give their opinion on the standard of the restoration.
The show is set to air in the Summer.
Andrew.
