Mk3 door removal

Post by Timo20 »

Hi, looking for advice to remove my drivers door.can you remove the pins with door in situ and not unbolt the hinges risking alignment issues.
If the pins can be re moved what tool has anyone used. Also the top hinge where it is welded to the door has a rust issue is this common and can it be repaired.

Many thanks Tim

Hi Tim,
You can punch the pins through but the top one is a faff.
I always took the door off by unbolting the hinges from the A-pillar.
It's not that difficult to realign it, especially if you don't disturb the catch on the B-pillar so you can close it and kind of nip it up roughly to start with.
Two man job really, and a small jack to take the weight helps too.

A wee squirt of aerosol spray paint round the hinge on the A pillar makes it easy to get back in the same spot .........you can see where it was
