Flashing leccy light

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has experienced this before or what you'd all recommend?

The two pod dash on the GL has a red light for what I guess is the alternator? But recently rather than staying a solid red, it will flash and do what it likes - is it an issue with a connection somewhere or a dodgy alternator do we think?

If it helps I've recently fitted a new battery as the old one had died.

I have a video but am out at the moment so will have to upload it later

Thanks
Danny

Does it flash in an, um, flashy sense, or sort of fade from black to lit in a more gentle manner?

Ummmmm....
Both. Depending on how it feels.

I am trying to upload a video but it won't let me because it doesn't like the file extension so will try and upload it another way.

It does flash randomly at times, but other times it will fade in and out as various speeds

I could see nothing as a popup window I couldn't close handily kept popping up over the important part!

If it's anything like what mine was doing, I think it came down to the olde plug on the back of the alternator, though I subsequently found that my battery live cable needed replacing too.

Hi Danny.

Thats a proper flashing mate.! 🤔🤔

My alternator light used to come on and off but more a smooth fade off or just a dull glow but not as erratic a flash as yours has. Replacing the alternator did the trick for me but i know Gus at Tickover said the connectors on the plug can cause issues resulting in the light coming on even though alternator seems to keep battery in good charge so as Tom said deffo check the plug mate and check the connectors to see if any have become corroded or even loose. If it looks dodgy then maybe Martin might have a good one you can fit. Seen some brand new aftermarket universal plugs on ebay before too that are supposed to be ok for most classic alternator set ups . Sometimes this plug can just work loose from the back of alternator too and not sit proper tight as some have a locking clip wire to hold the plug tight on place but many alternators dont.

Good luck mate and let us know how you get on.

Cheers all, the weather finally let up today enough to get out and look!

The clip that secures the multi plug into the back of the alternator had somehow become disconnected at one end of it and was really loose, for now I have tightened it and clipped it back up, started the car and it's not flashing so fingers crossed that solves it....??
Not sure how it had worked itself loose but time will tell!

Had to move on because the laser also decided yesterday to start playing silly buggers and had the same light come on!! That was a much quicker diagnosis - the fan belt has elected to shit itself and decorate the inside of the engine bay - that should at least be an easy fix!

Nice one Danny. Thanks for the update and a very good heads up for anyone with a similar issue with their alternator light. 👍👍

Glad you got the Laser sorted too Danny. You had to do a bit of "alternating" between your Capris

What's the chances the 3.0S alternator light will come on next....😳😳😳....Now this would be a "Christine" moment 😂😂😂
