1979 2.0 Ghia

Post by AGD4692 »

Purchased new by my father from KT Erith on 23/1/1979, matching numbers,198k miles most have done on numerous trips London to Athens and back

I took over the car in 1984, genuine Motorsport front spoiler ( hens teeth even back in 1986 when I fitted it), Bilsteins with genuine Ford RS springs front and rear single leafs, dealer fitted front fog lights, electric aerial and sunroof deflector before delivery. Lumenition fitted in 1986 and full Janspeed manifold and system in 1987, still on the car.

Moved to Greece in 1992, obviously it came with me!!!!

Hi,
looks very good! ;)
And dealer fitted front fog lights. Rare! Where do you have switch for them? Between steering wheel and ashtray? Could you send picture, please?

Sorry for the late reply... yes the switch is between the steering wheel and the ashtray in the space where the manual choke would be, strangely its not a genuine Ford switch, tbh I've never seen a genuine Ford switch... mine is a simple on/off toggle and its wired through the sidelights, they switch off when main beam is on.

Whilst we are on the subject of fog lights... my rear fog light switch has a green "on" cover not the usual amber, not sure why... maybe the green version of the switch is for front fog lights? if so, where would they be fitted for front fog lights as there's obviously no spare place on the dash.

Hi,
never seen with green light, don't help with it.

But front fog light switch should be between steering wheel and ashtray and looks like warning light switch:

Hi Tom,

My foglights and the genuine brackets were installed by the Ford dealer before delivery, and the switch is a simple on/off toggle, like the ones available in accessory shops. Not sure the reason for this, it's in the blank where the manual choke would sit, maybe they didn't want to drill the panel on a brand new car.

I used to work for Ford in the mid-80's, I've never seen either of the two switches that you posted.

I notice from your profile pic that you have fog lights, what switch is fitted?

Hi Arthur,
foglights on my Capri were installed in 2007 when guys in Spain restored it (before I bought Capri).

Switch was not original and was on wrong place next to warning lights switch and fader front/rear speakers (between steering wheel and driver door).
So last year I changed it to original one and put it on right place.

yep it was great, held various positions... the highlight strange as it may seem was seeing the prototypes heavily camouflaged of the MK5 Escort four years before it was released
