I can also vouch for that size on Ghia alloys.

Bought a set of five of these from these guys, spoke to them first to see if they were compatible with an 80's Ford, very helpful place been going a good few years

Just done exactly the same things! bought Ghia wheels but they have really old 205/60 and 185/60 on the front. Id put them on to see what it looks like but the valves seem to have stopped working.

Does anyone have a picture of their wheels with 185/70 R13s ? I'm guessing this is standard for 1.6 / 2.0 alloy wheel Capris?

According to the Ford brochure of September 78, the only capris that had 185/70/13 tyres as standard were the 3litre S and Ghia, all others had 165/13, the 185’s were an option however I believe this changed late 79 to 185 being standard fitment. I always used to get people telling me that I had the wrong size tyres (165’s) however as I had the original spare with a Firestone 165 I knew they were wrong and the Ford brochure supposed that. The 165’s do look like bicycle wheels, so it all depends what your intention is, on the Ghia wheel I run 165/13 and on the 7 1/2 RS 4 spokes I run 205/60/13

I always think 185 tyres look too narrow on the Capri, where possible 205 seem to suit the car better.

Years ago I had a set of 7" rims welded onto my centres so I could run 205s or 215s on my mk2 Escort . Its surprising just how different the car felt on lower profile wider tires .

I bought one of those tyres for the spare on my last Capri.

Certain tyre sizes are hard to get, I could only find one supplier for my Sierra wheels, so at some point I might have to get bigger wheels so more tyre choce.

Wider tyres do give a good stance yes, but it's amazing how much heavier the steering becomes. My car came with 205 tyres but when I changed them to standard 185, the difference in handling/steering was massive, far better.

:agree: mine has puny 165 80 13 that are easy enough to manoeuvre but look way too narrow, although for originality they stay for now.
