Tickover closing Workshop for good

Post by Wideboy1 »

Taken from Capri World
Their workshop skills and expertise will be sorely missed

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT (Tickover is 30 years old too!)
After 30 years of business, Tickover as you know it will be closing.
Gus and I started Tickover 30 years ago - our opening day was 1st January 1992. On 31st Dec 2021 we are parting our ways. Gus wants a change of direction after 30 years and it is going to be exactly 30 years to the day when it happens! He has worked bloody hard - Tickover would not have happened without him - Cheers little Bro!
We are closing the current premises. Tickover will continue from a new location (still in Dartford), but as a spare parts supplier only. Phone numbers and email and website will all continue unchanged. Mail order and supply of new parts will be exactly the same. There will not be a workshop for servicing and fitting, but the knowledge will all still be accessible, so don't hesitate to call or email for advice.
The other big upshot of all this is that because the new unit is smaller, the big pile of 2nd hand stuff cannot possibly all come to the new place. So all of that is going cheap. No reasonable offers will be refused. Call us if there is something you need - when it's gone it's gone. I don't think there will be any more breaking up of old Capris from now on.
We are shovelling stuff onto Ebay too - so have a look at our stuff there.
Meanwhile if we don't see or hear from you before, have a great Christmas and New Year and I hope to continue being your go-to supplier from then onwards.
Cheers - Clive !
EBAY bonanza
We've been rummaging through all the 2nd hand stuff piled all round out workshop and stores. We're listing as much as we can on Ebay, because much of it is sitting about and forgotten. So might as well let it go to good homes, prices are keen and we will add things every day as we find them. Click the link to have a looksee !

Yep this is very sad indeed. but its been on the cards for a while now. They pretty much stopped most mechanical work in their workshop selling parts online only.

Gus and Clive have worked wonders on B112 transforming my Capri over the last few years from suspension, drive train to engine mods, and lots of other jobs along the way.

Their workshop will be sorely missed in the Capri world with their amazing knowledge and skills. They are legends in my eyes but I would say this

I am gutted tbh but wish Gus all the best in his new venture and Clive too in keeping the Tickover banner flying as an online spares/advice business.

Suppose all good things must come to an end at some point. I am just glad i got all the work done on B112 before this

But....

Sad to hear, but good they are still supplying parts. I have used them on the rare occasions that Caprigear couldn't help.

One thing i won't miss is that fucking pothole ridden dirt track leading down into their yard. Always scared the shit out of me each and every time. Me and Jason were gonna foot the cost to get it sorted ourselves but no pont now

Do you have someone local to work on the Capri as and when required Nick?

When we moved 18 months ago I was concerned about finding a garage I could trust. The first garage I took the Capri to I later found out didn't do a great job although he claimed to know the cars having owned them himself, so I no longer use that place! I have now found somewhere that has an owner who likes and owns a couple of old cars and seems resonable

At £66 per hour labour cost, I'm determined to do oil and coolant changes myself and anything else I think I can manage on the Sierra, but too technical it will go to the garage!

This is a shame, I spoke to them last autumn about doing unleaded heads on my car, and they were not taking new jobs due to a backlog. Even back then they hinted that the current book of work would probably be the last.

The news of the workshop closure is sad to hear.
It's great that they'll still be around to supply parts.

I've often wondered when the big hitters, such as Capri Club, CapriGear, Tickover, will call it a day, no one is getting any younger.

Anyone know what the aforementioned 'new venture' is?

What about Andy's Auto Body Nick, he is from Tickover isn't he, I assume he isn't too far away also, doesn't he also do the mechanics?

Hi guys.

I known for a while Tickover were thinking to wind the mechanical side of their business down so been doing some research and really like the look of these guys. About 80 mins from me. Luckily i had most of the "big" jobs done by Tickover but might want some axle work done and Kejja can do this and by the looks of it anything else abd specialise in Classic cars.

https://kejjamotorsport.co.uk/

Jason has found a olace near Brands Hatch too that sound very good and John has found a very good option too near him in Watford who have recently restored Capris abd certainly know what they are doing.

Paul I seen Andys Auto Body which couid be a possibility too but not heard of anyone actually using him which kinda makes you wonder, so whilst its a very sad loss re Tickover its not all doom and gloom. I seen another couple of possibilities too.

If I ever did need any body restoration, I know a lad in Stockport who`s very fastidious: I`ve seen his work & it`s excellent ;)

I am still in my string vest and pants & in need of a shave since I found out but Nick uses a therapist once a week when his mighty Pinto Capri got wet so I am hoping to see her next week . My only worries is her name sounds like she should be in a ch4 quiz show ? “ Fiona Flaps “
But Nick did say she’s very gentle

Yes he did indeed Paul.!! Was on Salvage Hunters classic car show and Drew Pritchard brought a bonnet into him which was rusted along the front end iirc and yes he restored it to as new.!!
