Have you checked that the ignition timing is still at the correct specs?
Re: Not starting.
Definitely sounds like ignition timing is out.

Re: Not starting.
Sounds obvious and I’m not taking the rip, but if you’ve been working on the dizzy have you pulled any leads and put them on out of order? Or clipped the cap on frack to bunt? It’s easy in the hubbub to lose track and end up getting them out of whack then spending hours looking for the fault. Not that I’ve ever done such a thing. Nope. Not me.
Re: Not starting.
Hi cahootchy,
I am also interested in what you term “electronic pack”
We have a Mk 3 2.3S however, I believe the standard system is similar to yours.
As you know there is the main power cable direct from the battery to the starter solenoid. A smaller red cable feeds from this connection on the solenoid directly to the ignition switch.
Under normal conditions, if your system has the ballast cable, when you turn the key to “start”: the solenoid is energised connecting 12v battery power to the starter motor (thick cable) while at the same moment connecting 12v power to the coil (black/green cable).
Once you release the key it springs to “run” allowing the 12v input to travel through the Ballast Wire then into the (black/green cable) to supply the coil with 6v. I think it’s somewhere in this 6v side of the system where your problem could lie.
I would start by looking for loose/faulty connections at the Ignition switch and the starter solenoid.
All the best.

Error!
I wrote,
The 6v should be deleted, it should read, "I think it’s somewhere in this side of the system where your problem could lie."
The solenoid and ignition switch are normally 12v.)
Sorry!

Re: Not starting.
Thanks for the replys/information. I did have the leads off but in my mind i put them back in the correct order. Checked the timing, all looks good. I am thinking it's within the wiring - ballast wiring or such like. Any one around Inverness to help me - check things out? Thanks again.

Re: Not starting.
Sounds like its fried the ballast.
Hot wire the thing. You gotta be quick with this , or have an assistant . Run a wire from batt+ to coil + start the car as normal , if it continues to run when key is released the fault is in the ballast feed to the coil . Dont forget to take the hot wire off

Re: Not starting.
Have you disturbed the dizzy or taken her out and put back?
Years ago me and my (late) dad did this and couldn’t find anything until that simple thing of turning the dizzy 180 degree sorted it!
