It's been like this for quite a while now!

You only have 15 minutes or so to edit, then you can only delete your comment providing no one else has commented.

Some people were going back editing their comments after other members had replied, making them look wrong or incorrect and causing a little confusion.

You can only edit the most recent post I think only if people haven't commented again after it...??
Not sure really... basically make sure you get it right the first time

For reference, you can still edit your posts even after they've been replied to, as long as the change is made within that 15 minute window of the original posting.
If somebody else quotes you in their post, then that part still cannot be changed by you.

This time limit for editing appears to have been revoked now. I am now able to edit any of my previous posts, should I wish to do so.

Andrew, I turned off the time limit a little while back, without fanfare, to see if there were any problems. I know it's annoying when you spot a typo or omission and can't correct it but there were a couple of instances where people tried to manipulate posts which then spoils it for everyone. Such is life unfortunately.
If we all 'play nicely' then editing shouldn't be a problem.

Good move.
We always play nicely here!

It's good to know that our spelling errors are not preserved for eternity too! :D
