You've done the hard bit, it's plain sailing from here....
Perhaps the roll pin bit was difficult because you weren't wearing your lucky stripy socks! :lol:

Haha unfortunately for me those socks have basically had it - need to find some new lucky socks with less holes :lol:

Hi Andrew,

Two quick questions....

1. the washer you mentioned at the keyhole end of the barrel that could be replaced with a fibre washer - do you have a link where to get a fibre washer or replacement from at all? Mine are buggered!
2. When I finally get to the end do I have to have a cuppa or can I have something a bit stronger? (I think I've earned it!! :beer: ) :lol:

Hi Danny,
It's good to hear that the project is nearing completion! Is the deterioration of the washer the cause of the lock issues? Mine was, as the in and out movement of the barrel allowed the spring to jam between the barrel and the housing.
1. I just used some washers I had lying around, but you could measure the size required and buy some from Ebay or any other DIY outlet.
This seller should have something that will fit:

I think it must have been the issue - hard to tell when there was so much grime and crud everywhere!

Thanks for the link, i'll measure what I have left later (it was cracked and missing a section, when I took it off it broke in two!) and see if they have a serviceable part :)

Instead of trying to reconstruct the washer, it might be easier to measure the diameter of the barrel and buying a pair of washers with the same I.D. as that measurement. If the O.D is too big it should easily be trimmed to the correct size using a sharp craft knife.

Great idea Andrew, I'll measure the barrel instead :cool:

And I know! the sunroof started leaking yesterday so that's always good, but I did repair the rear wiper the day before so I shouldn't be surpised really; fix one thing and the next thing will break immediately afterwards :lol:
