Re: Walton Bridge Breakfast Meet 24/2/2019
Thanks mate !! Yep it really was a glorious morning indeed !! Some fantastic cars there. Two other Capris there too. One was a 2.0S owned by a guy called Sean I know from fb. Top bloke and lovely capri. The other was a Red 2.0GL up for sale for £11.995 !! Deffo gonna pop back to this meet.[/quote]
Glad you enjoyed it and it's nice to see/meet new Capri's /owners.
I wonder if the red 2.0 GL you saw for sale is the same one that's advertised on Car and Classic? 1980 with 90k. Looks smart.
I used to have a silver 1984 2.0S (early 5 speed) and it's good to know there's still a few around.

These really are amazing Andy, used mine again (same model as this one, bought from Aldi) the other day -andyd wrote:
As it's been over 3 months since it last ran, I thought I would start mine this morning.....
Wrong!!! Flat battery even though it's been disconnected
So a quick 3 hour charge and she fired up for a trip down the driveway

I think my battery could be on it's last legs to go flat like it did....My Sierra battery was almost new and was fine after a 5 month layup disconnected. I'm sure when it gets a little regular use it will be fine, but I may get a new battery before next year

Hi Andy, it's interesting that you usually disconnect the neg connection and your battery lasts for several months. Much longer than I thought to be honest. I've never got that long (although I drive regularly anyway, but occasionally it's been a few weeks), from my Capri battery, even a new one. Am I to assume that it's the clock which drains it, often wondered how much power that takes.

As far as i know the clock is the only drain on a Capri unless there is an immobilser light etc.
Was caught out a few times with the XR3i where you have the digital clock and radio code. Battery would be flat in a few weeks.
If a battery is disconnected then it can't drain But maybe it's luck
It's not hard to charge a battery a day or so before i want it after winter storage

Thanks Andy, yes that's what I was thinking, it can only be the clock. I guess a more powerful battery (i.e. 075 instead of 085) lasts longer when stood still.andyd wrote:Hi Paul, pbar wrote:Hi Andy, it's interesting that you usually disconnect the neg connection and your battery lasts for several months. I have the 097 battery in mine in mine but I do use the trickle charge that makes the battery think it’s being used and charged . But also I do Carry a jump start charger like the one you put up Paul , touch wood only needed last years first start up as I forgot to plug the trickle charger in .....pbar wrote:Thanks Andy, yes that's what I was thinking, it can only be the clock. I keep mine on a trickle charge when not in use. Keeps it cosy.
Tried one of them booster pack thingy and they’re ok for a while but your just keeping that on charge as well!
So I’ll stick to mr trickle.

Great pics as always! To fill in some gaps, Winnie owns the Mk1 Granada (he used to have Capris, and is now in a wheelchair following an accident. Lovely bloke, recognisable but longish curly hair), and Andy owns the Escort cab.
I was at another meet more local to me (White Lion) and despite everything my Capri wasn't playing ball. I will have to write an update in my thread, but truth be told if I didn't love my Capri so much I'd have either done a Basil Fawlty, or done an Elvis & shot it

Hi Kris,
Thanks for the info on those Fords mate. This was my first Walton Bridge and I really enjoyed it. Really nice location but they need a bigger carpark methinks We got there about 0830 and had to do a few sweeps before we got parked up. Think its getting to be one of those breakfast meets that is so popular now its almost outgrown its venue. Some really lovely and rare classics there. Hope I can make the next one....
Kris I could NEVER see you smack your Capri with a branch....no matter what stress it may put you through
Glad to hear more recently its behaving itself more and really look forward to catching up with you both soon
All the best
Nick
