Queen Square, Bristol, January 2017.
Hi,
Here are a selection of photos from my latest visit to the Bristol breakfast meet. I've uploaded a few more photos than usual to try and lift the winter gloom! I hope you enjoy looking through them.
If you want to see more cars from this meet, please check out my Flickr album and feel free to comment on any photo or add them to your favourites. https://www.flickr.com/photos/130542797 ... 8803847706
I'll start with the Fords. It was good to get another look at this Anglia.
Escort Mk1.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what model Granada 2.8 this might be? It has rear head restraints, but doesn't look posh enough to be a Ghia. Poverty spec models with the V6 engine seem to be quite rare.
Cortina.
Cortina Crayford conversion.
RST.
Modern Mustang GT.
The iconic 60's version.
Not to everybody's taste, a Probe 24V.
Possibly appealing to even fewer people than the Probe, a Scorpio Ultima.
1930 Model A.
I'll move on to the classic Brits now. A Triumph Vitesse 6.
Jaguar XJC.
XJS.
Rover P6 V8. Registered as a 216 cabriolet?
Lea-Francis Sports from 1948.
Ahem......
American? British? You decide.....
DeLorean.
There is usually a great turn out of American cars every month, and January was no exception. A '69 Chevrolet Camaro SS.
A newer Camaro Z28.
A pair of Dodge Challengers, new versus old.
Every thing is bigger in America, even though it's only a two door coupe, this Buick LeSabre is massive!
Buick Riviera.
Now on to classic American pick up trucks, like this 1955 Ford F-100 V8.
'66 Ford F-100.
A 1968 Chevrolet C10.
'50 Chevy.
An even older '46 Chevrolet. It's amazing to think that this is over 70 years old, and is still being used regularly.
Millions of these Volkswagen 1600 Fastbacks must have been sold in the UK, but they don't seem to be seen very often these days.
Citroen DS20.
Another French classic, the Citroen CX.
Porsche 924 Turbo.
Lancia Delta Integrale 16V.
Renault 5 GT Turbo.
Porsche 968 Club Sport.
Alpina BMW B7S.
Volvo brick.
Toyota MR2.
Celica GT.
Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7.
If modern performance are your thing, there were plenty of cars to tickle your fancy, like this Aston Martin Vanquish V12.
Vantage V8.
A Ferrari 360 Spider, top down in January!
McLaren 650S.
Ferrari F430.
McLaren 12C. Three McLarens this month make them three times more common than the Capri!
Ferrari 348.
Lotus Esprit Turbo S4.
Porsche 911 Turbo 4S.
I'll save the best until last!
That's all, folks!
Andrew.

Thanks Andrew,
Lifting the winter gloom is a good idea......Roll on April
Still amazes me the amount of Classics on the road throughout the winter Maybe the monthly tax scheme has helped
The Granada could be a GL

Yes. could be. Although I don't recall seeing any GL models with rear headrests, although this car could always have had the interior swapped for a Ghia one. I'll have to pay more attention next time I see it!
All the best,
Andrew.

Could even be an ex police maybe ? Some great cars Andrew, really like the American muscle and the black Camaro looks stunning. It seems the Ford Probe has reached the level the Capri was about 10-15 years ago, pretty cheap to buy and & modify, there's one near my mothers wilh similar stripes & chrome wheels . Is this one to watch ? There were some stunning original ones on their club stand at the NEC last November & I've got to honest, they looked pretty smart in V6 guise. That anglia in your first pic does look amazing, still haven't seen this in the metal, hope to see it this year. Cheers for posting these, going back for another look at them nowAndrew 2.8i wrote:Hi Andy, andyd wrote:The Granada could be a GL

Maybe you could be right about the Probe, although I can't see them ever being as popular as the Capri is right now.
The black Camaro was really nice, it's the first time I've ever seen it but I hope it won't be the last.
All the best,
Andrew.

I always check your monthly updates on this meet and think the cars all look stunning and would love to go put I've always been put off largely by the distance from West London to Bristol but I've just figured out (google figured out) that its actually closer to me than you Andrew so I guess I have no excuses not to come for Feb or March

Hi Andrew,
I missed this was a New Thread fella!!! Doh!!! Sorry about that, some Great Pic's as ever and I do recognize a few from my visits over here too... As to the Granada, I was going to suggest the Granada Taxi. this was orientated for the rear passenger with not too many creature comforts in the front, but if memory serves, it only came as a Diesel, so unless its had an Engine Up Grade???
Danny, this ain't all that far fella. Not sure where you are, I'm Watford, so just a few min's to the A40 / M40. Also Nick, 'FordoholicNick' keeps threatening to come along one day!!! Nick??? Are you up for this??? I might try for the Feb one, as I'll be away in March, so could go for a Convoy in Feb if your up for it with Danny maybe??? Mark, Neil, are either of you around for the Feb gathering??? Meet up at the Church as normal??? Any takers???
Cheers for sharing these Photo's Andrew, all the very best for now, cheers,
John...
P.S. Confirm it is the Second Sunday of the Month please Andrew???

It's good to hear that you enjoy looking through my photos of this meet.
From my house to Bristol is 125 miles door to door, which is probably about the same distance from Bristol to the centre of London.
It would be great if you came along with John next time he goes. The more the merrier!
All the best,

Yes, it's always the second Sunday of every month.
I'm going in Feb, but most likely not in the Capri, as I've got a few jobs to do that I haven't got around to doing yet. It's been too cold out in the garage!

My cars in bits at the moment so I won't be able to make a meet in February. Hopefully I should be okay for the march meet but don't be surprised to see some work in progress.
I believe the Granada is a 2.8 L after a bit of searching around on the internet.

Hi Danny,
Sounds like a plan then, I think Nick is busy for the Sunday Queens Squ visit unfortunately, but all could change. I know your area reasonably well fella, so could arrange to meet up where ever..... it's an Early start though!!!!
I think I saw you mention your planning to get down Simply Ford. I was contemplating going down later in the day, but we could go for a 3 car convoy if your up for it, as Nick has talked me into doing the early start again.... I best get my name down now... cheers,
Hey Neil,
You must of got in while I was typing fella... shame you can't make it, unless you jump in with Mark if he can make it??? Hope your Cappa is basically ok??? Running up to Phil's tomorrow for the MOT.... EKKK, wish me luck??? Cheers......

Yep, I will let you chaps know nearer the time....ok John I mean I will let you know by midnight the night before. We have done a few "last min" trips before after all A three Capri convoy does sound great fun indeed so I will see what I can do, but failing this there is a convoy to Beaulieu to look forward too...weather permittingTaff50ish wrote: I think Nick is busy for the Sunday Queens Squ visit unfortunately, but all could change.
PS Andrew, I too missed this thread with your pictures. Again fantastic and really enjoyed looking through them. This meet never disappoints
I know the Probe got/gets a bit of a raw deal but the more I see of them proudly lined up and waxed up by their owners at meets the more I am liking them. TBH I always did like them and as soon as they got the slagging I think I liked them even more ! Have seen some really nice examples of them both original and "modded" and you have to the owners for keeping the few left on the road and in such great condition too. Don't think I seen a "bad example" as the few remaining seem to be in the hands of very devoted owners indeed ! I certainly tip my hat to them and would never criticise any ones choice of car, especially if they are keeping them on the road and its a Blue Oval
Hey Andrew would you happen to know the numbers of Probes on the road/sorned ? Cant be many can it ?
Cheers again for the pictures fella and who knows I might actually photobomb one of them myself before the year is out !!!
Cheers guys
Nick

You're right about that, for both models there are only 607 cars licensed and 948 on SORN. 1555 in total!
I agree that it is good to see them in the hands of devoted owners who look after them. There were some great examples at Simply last year.

My son saw a 2.0 L at college yesterday, took a photo to show me and it looked very similar to the one on here. I wasn't even aware that they did a L model but checking a site that someone on here had pointed out in another post revealed they were both L models..... Nice
I started off changing my engine mounts a few weeks ago when the roads were salty, then its lead on to a load of other tidying up jobs in the engine bay. Like you say it has been very cold, but I'd rather do these jobs now and get back to driving when the weather gets better. However I am finding jobs taking a lot longer in this cold weather!
I'm planning to up-rate my front brakes, get the area below the bump strips resprayed and rear suspension tidied up and lowering blocks fitted before Simply Ford this year, so I need to crack on
All the best

Hi all,
Well, the MOT came and went and to be honest, it could have gone better!!! Yep, she Failed..... Bugger!!!! I guess It would be Arogant of me to assume it would just keep passing with out the odd bit of TLC, mechanically speaking that is. Steering Rack leaking a bit, a shame as it was replaced approx 3 Years ago, but I was informed, some of the recent Recons ain't been up to spec, not sure about this but they do appear to be in short supply. I have till next Thursday to get one found and get it swapped out and MOT'd, if not, I wont be able to make the Bristol meet!!! Sorry Danny, but fingers crossed, this will be resolved in time and we can go ahead as planned.....
Neil, good to hear yours is just 'tinkering'.....
I'll let you all know next Thursday if I'm ready to hit the road for Bristol. Cheers till then, all the very best all, cheers,
John......
P.S. Danny, we should be in Bristol for about 8:30am ideally to park up in the Square. So yes, an Early start would be required.... Cheers...
