I used to love a Squash Fly biscuit as my dad used to call them, my Mum would often put a packet in my bag on a School day out.
I will be looking for a packet next time I go shopping.

it was probably Izal toilet paper any way.
Izal, the very definition of `unfit for purpose`. How did they ever get away with selling that stuff???

My Nan used to have this in her toilet. It was like stiff greaseproof paper. Also had it at School. Horrible stuff.

Thats interesting, a gallon of petrol in 1976 was £ 0.75p a gallon so about 3 times the cost of fish and chips, our local chippy charges £8.75 for fish and chips as I was shocked to find out recently. I am glad petrol has not increased at the same pace as Fish and Chips as that would be close to £20 a gallon or about £4.40 a litre.
As a buy the way my Father when petrol went over £1 gallon in the late 70's he came in a through his car keys down and threatened to give up driving as that is ridiculous. If he was alive now he would be shocked.

I remember as a boy in the mid 70's that Fred Evans, the owner of the chippie round the corner from me charged 5p for a small chips and 6p for a large chips. I have no idea as to what fish cost then or now as I'm allergic to the stuff.
Regarding petrol, as an even smaller boy in the late 60's I remember going into a petrol station with my Uncle in his old Morris Oxford Estate and he asked for 4 gallons of four star. The attendant filled the car then asked my uncle for a pound.
I remember buying a set of plugs for my first car, a mini, and they were a pound for all four N9Y Champions and a set for my Octavia these days is about £45 trade for the four.

Mental - two large cod and a large bag of chips set me back around £22 at the weekend!
Think it was about £9 a fish...??
