I`m looking for a mint one and i`d pay decent money for the right one but at £600 i`d rather shove wasps up my arse than pay that......or just say to hell with it and fit a leather cover. If it was good enough for Tickfords....... :D

The days when Capris and parts could be got cheaply is long since gone. You'll all have to wake up to the fact, yes, that price for a dash is taking the piss but with donor cars and the amount of salvagable parts coming off them then the prices are all going to rise.
I haven't broken a car for almost a year now because I haven't been able to buy any for sensible enough money to make it financially viable.
I've seen 2.8i's for over 2k that are simply scrappers - that's the owners taking the piss. Lasers, GL's etc all crazy money.Everybody is to blame, look on E Bay right now at the number of shitty cars being touted and tell me that the prices wanted for them is realistic because I think some owners are deluded.
If breakers are expected to pay through the nose for cars and if occasionally a really good or rare part is salvaged then why can't he expect good money for it - all of you would do the same, none of you would sell valuable parts for pennies.
Of course there are limits as to what is considered sensible, people have different ideas on that also but parts will not always be available and there are owners who will be prepared to pay whatever in order to keep their cars on the road.
You can't have it both ways, you think your car is worth a fortune yet you moan about the price of keeping it on the road.
The youngest Capri is now approaching 30 years old, why would you think that they can be maintained on a shoestring.
Try running and maintaining a modern car and you will soon realise that the Capri prices are not that bad after all.

Correct. Everyone and his uncle it seems wants to push their car prices up.

I must be one of the few who actually doesn't want my car price to rise. I used to like the fact that you can pick up a running Capri for £700 and maintain it cheaply. I hope that Capri prices start to drop soon and my car has less value. There are a lot of benefits to that!

Unfortunately the prices of some Capri's at the moment are moving them out of the reach of the people they were originally aimed at.

Hi,
As we're all aware, the demand for mint grey dashes outstrips supply. Therefore, the seller is able to demand a price that they believe the market will support. Nobody prices an item with the intention of not being to sell it, and there aren't any more around at the moment. If somebody wants this, they'll buy it. My guess is that this dash will sell fairly quickly.

Some fair points made but i`d like to point out that a "mint" dash is not about keeping a Capri on the road, its about keeping it as near standard as possible. There are certain items that are being supplied by other manufacturers and they will keep the cars on the road. If we were talking about a part that is not reproduced and is vital to keeping a Capri on the road then yes maybe we`d all pay, because we`d have to. Sadly the nut measurers are paying top dollar but everyone else with average parts is jumping on the bandwagon.

I think I'll just get some Halfords vinyl paint and recolour my scorched dash which has no cracks and put that in instead,

I would rather capri's not to go up in value, that's when you get the undesirables trying to steal them more and more

Hi mate.

You won't be sorry ! Halfords Flexible Vinyl Paint (HFVP) is brilliant stuff...just look at the results that Rob (freelanderfan) got with his grey dash. Now its the Dark Grey paint you want to be getting. And get one of those spray trigger tools you fit on the can... makes it much easier.

Wow its just great to be talking about HFVP again...I love the stuff :)

All the best

Exactly. Definitely one of the main drawbacks of rising values.

Imho I think the reason so few partshave been reproduced is because up until the last 12- 18 months most Capri 's commanded small money in comparison to such as Escorts.
Is it possible that now they've rocketed in value the panel and parts reproducers might see there's some profit to made as there's bound to be more demand now. There was a time that a Capri would be scrapped with just a few hundred quid's worth of work needed. I doubt that's case now as Martin has pointed out.
It's almost definitely a case of buy the Capri you most want very soon or it may shoot out of your reach by the time you've saved.

Possibly. Is it me, or have the prices of good, although not exceptional, cars levelled slightly over the last few months?
Maybe they've reached a plateau. Maybe I'm completely mistaken......

Andrew.
