Famous Capri Owners

Post by pbar »

Can you think of any famous Capri owners? So far in my very short list, I have -

Barry Hearn, millionaire snooker/boxing promoter and manager with his rare Tickford (came up for sale on ebay if I remember corrently).

Brian Connolly, singer with The Sweet, in a 70's music annual it states that he hates travelling between gigs but loves bombing about in his Ford Capri.

Harry Styles from a little known boy band who has a Mark 1.

John Deacon from Queen almost bought one back in their heyday, but Freddie put him off saying it wasn't rock star enough.

Hi,
Jimmy Saville who, as unlikely as it seems, had an RS3100 and Cliff Richard had an Injection Special with a KAT bodykit.

That's far too modern for me! Here is Cliff Richards car, not too sure that I can picture him driving this -

You need to either become infamous, or do something to become famous. Your choice Nick!

Hi,
I've just thought of another one. Doesn't the drummer from Fighting With Wire own a Capri? He is also known to frequent this forum!

Hi,
After re-reading some of my old posts, I have reminded myself (onset of age-related memory loss) of another famous Capri owner.
Mel Appleby, from poptastic 80's hitmakers Mel & Kim, once owned a 280. I think I read that in one of the late 80's CCI magazines.
Also, thanks to one of Steve's previous posts, we know that Angela Rippon used to own one.

Hi,
And at the risk of sounding like a real nerd, apparently so did Peter Sutcliffe. A lime green GT.
Andrew.
Edit:
Extract from Peter Sutcliffe's confession statement of January 4th 1981:
" I was in a Ford Capri, K registered, a lime green one with a black roof with a sun grill in the back window."

Hi Andy,
I would, but it's had a minor touch-up!

I can't claim the credit for finding the Top Gear film, it was Stevemarl. It is a great film though, isn't it?
Andrew.
