My horn is intermittent. Can the switch be taken apart and repaired?

Take the connection off the horn and clean both the horn and the connect with some emery cloth. then remove the horn and clean the earth bolt that secures the horn to the car as it earths on this.

good advice but i already did that when i detailed the engine bay, also left indication does not self cancel so am looking to replace the switch. just wondered if the switch is repairable?

Think I asked this once to be told "no" basically. Can get replacements 2nd hand ones from caprigear etc. What I want to know though is, what do we do when they're *all* broken?

I recently had an indicator stalk replaced due to the indicator's working intermittently and I asked the guy at the time, is there any chance it could be fixed, he took it off me and had a good look. He then said yeah, showed me what to do (basically the casing had broken, he said i would have to un-rivet it, then use some kind of special adhesive to get it back together). He said though, while you can still get them second hand, I wouldn't bother going through the hassle of trying to fix at the moment though and just replace it.

I don't see why everything on these cars can't be fixed even if it is some sort of bodge and not perfect. Generally they only need a bit of welding, gluing or rewiring. I think the amount of time, effort and money is the issue rather than the fact they can't be fixed.

I've held on to my original stalk for when the day comes when they are all broken so it can be fixed, haha.

We rely on places such as the Capri Club, to source more or remanufacture them (which they are doing already with some parts)

Rather than start a whole new thread.... Has anyone actually managed to successfully repair a stalk? One of mine have just gone and it would be so much easier if I could just repair the bloody thing!

I just know how much it annoys me having to read four different threads trying to find the info I need so thought it would be better to keep it all contained!!

For reference, yes it does seem possible to repair (obviously not road tested yet but everything working as it should) and no it wasn't that difficult!

Wish I had taken some pictures so show how easy it was in hindsight but will do that when I take the old spare stalk apart at some point in the future and write it up for future reference for all

My full beams elected that they should be on whenever the felt light

Basically when I was driving along the full beam occasionally jumped on wheneverit felt like it, turns out one of the rivets (not rivets, don't drill them) had broken off and therefore the casing was loose which meant it kept jumping onto full beam

I got a dremel with a cutting disc on it and carefully cut the edge of the rim off the 'what look like rivets' and was then able to push the aluminium casing off - the 'what look like rivets' are actually part of the casing and are cast aluminium that had been knocked flat to effectively create a rivet, so drilling into it will butcher the casing.

I cleaned up the contacts under the cover, slapped a bit of grease on where needed, then loosely put it back together and covered the whole lot in superglue before sticking it in a vice and leaving it to set

Voilà, back in the car and functioning correctly again!

Nicely done Danny, and definitely one to remember, I'll certainly keep that in mind.
