Hi!
New to the forums and thought that I should introduce myself.
Im a extremely Capri interested bloke from Sweden.
Im currently on my second Capri, having almost finished a Lima engine conversion on my old one before I sold it on to a friend. Currently I'm building a Cologne 2.9L V6 Turbo engine for my 1979 Capri 2.0S.
Pictures of the old 2.0 GL -77 with a 2.3L ford Lima engine (from the US Ford Pinto)
It was stroked to 2.3L, balanced rods, high pressure oil pump, home made exhaust, aftermarket camshaft, bigger valves etc.
Used a Type-9 gearbox from a Sierra and the front propshaft from a Capri with an automatic gearbox. Home made crossmember for the gearbox.

Welcome to the forum.
Very nice Capri you have there, I like the sound of a 2.9 turbo!
Are there many Capris in Sweden? They must be a lot of fun on the snowy winter roads!

We don't have a lot of Capri's here unfortunately, but there are quite a few here in my city.
Two Capri 2.9 Turbo, one with 327bhp at the wheels and one with around 500bhp at the wheels.
Im helping a friend building a Capri MK1 as well, so we are at least 4 here with Capris
He is basing his build on a 1968 Capri 1600 that we rebuilt almost everything on:

Not decided on a turbo, but probably something like a Holset HX35 (single turbo of course)

Nice project I can't wait to see more. I think skogenracing are building something similar at the minute too.
Since I got a capri I've said "over the moon" a lot more than ever before.

I have been busy with life and some not so fun family related stuff, but I'm going to start working on the Capri tomorrow again.
First thing to do is restoring the ignition lock wiring after someone tried to nick it last week.
Fortunately the locks are all intact, as well as all the windows.
They just cut every single wire going to the ignition lock...
So soldering is on the schedule tomorrow
Skogenracing are actually based in my city, so I'v had quite a lot of help from those guys

Sorry to hear about this. It sounds like the damage was not as bad as it could have been, so at least that's something to be thankful for. Luckily the scumbags didn't get what they were after, but hopefully will get what they deserve!

Back from the dead (sortof)!
Got the ignition sorted and drove all through the summer. I then decided to do some power sliding round a roundabout and perhaps overrevved the engine a bit. It blew the head gasket, so I put it away in the garage and started buying some parts!
So, the final recipie for the Capri will be:
Im not sure on the fuel pump yet. Will probably modify the stock tank and use a pump inside of it.
That's it for now. Will post some pics when I get home

*6 puck sinter clutch with Sierra Cosworth pressure plate

Missed this first time around. Looking good though. Forced induction seems to be popular in Scandinavia, I'm curious if there's any particular reason for that?

The parts are easy to come by, and force induced horespower is by far the cheapest and easiest alternative out there.
Especially when a stock 2.9 V6 can take 1bar (~14.5psi) for thousands of miles without breaking.
We have never had any "bolt on" tuning kits for our Fords avalible (Janspeed, Turbo Technics etc), so experimenting is what has gotten us this far, I think.
I have as of this moment put about £500 into the build, excluding the car. Will probably be another £1000 before it's finished, but then i'll have 320bhp at the wheels, so it's still cheaper than going out and buying a YB Cosworth engine, or getting that much power from a Pinto.
It's really wonderful that the pistons can take the beating. Going over 1 bar pretty much only breaks the head gaskets.
If you o-ring the heads, you can go alot further. I have a friend that drives his 2.9 Turbo with 1.45bar (~21psi) of boost, and it holds up just fine.

Thanks! Guess all that cold air is good too! I'd heard good stuff about forced induction 2.9 12v power, and liked the fact that it was possible on stock cr. Think the only thing that put me off was the need to sort manifolds etc and the cost of the turbos themselves.

Manifolds are pretty easy to do. Just use the stock "loafs" and weld some pipes to a T3 or T4 flange.
Turbos are cheap if you buy the right stuff. Get one from an old lorry, and they will be cheap as hell.
My friend just picked up a reconditioned Holset H2C from a Scania lorry for around £100.

So... I got some more parts home today, so the recipe has been altered again.
New stuff going onto the Capri:
*Welded Volvo 1031 axle from a Volvo 240 (much stronger than any Capri axle), welded with new mounts to fit bolt on with the Capri leaf springs.
*Front struts with good dampers and lowering springs (2" lowering). Modified with 280mm brake discs from a Mazda 323, Volvo 240 4-piston calipers and BMW bolt pattern (5x120).
*Spacers to get BMW bolt pattern on the rear axle.
*Modified stock (carburetor) tank modified with an intank pump.
*DeatschWerks DW300 intank pump. Should give me enough fuel for 500WHP or so.
*MT75 gearbox instead of the Type-9 Diesel box.
Pictures coming soon

Almost two years since the last post. I got some new wheels on the Capri, the original front seats (finally) and bought a pile of stuff that I need for the new plans. Going to do this a bit easier, so all my idiotic plans from before goes out the window.
I have done some things since the last post as well, this amongst other stuff:
*All the bushes are of "PowerFlex" type
*22mm front ARB
*14mm rear ARB
*Proper 40mm lowering springs in the front
*1.5" lowering blocks in the back
*New multi leaf springs
*Harder dampers in the front
*New stock dampers in the back
*Electronic ignition
*Volvo 240 4-piston front brake calipers
*Volvo 240 master brake cylinder
*Ventilated brake discs from Mazda 323 GT Turbo
Will be changing the engine from the stock 2L Pinto to a 2.9L Cologne V6 from a 1998 Scorpio. Gearbox is a Type 9 from a 2.8i.
Will be running it without turbo to begin with to actually do some driving and save up some cash for the turbo conversion.

I would love to get some spacers for it as well to get the wheels a bit further out, but I'm quite pleased with it now.
Have changed the tailgate to a less rotten one from a MK2 Capri GL, so no rear wiper and no spoiler (yay!).
Only problem is that it's orange, but it will get sorted.
Friday is scheduled to be the official Pinto removal day. A friend comes over and helps me with that.
Hopefully it's a quick job to do, so we have time to make some mounts for the new radiator and the intercooler (might as well make the mounts).

Only problem with changing to lower profile tyres is they'll change the gearing slightly i believe. So be prepared for that.
