Hi , Its been a while since I've been on the site but I thought I'd put an update on here of my recent tinkering . I've decided to change my 2.8 carbed mk1 to a 24V cosworth , maybe I shouldn't have listened to Beakster !!!.
I've spent the past month researching and sourceing parts to carry out the conversion and yesterday the engine went in !!!
After buying a low mileage engine with no loom or parts ,I then brought a complete running car for the rest of the bits. As it was a carbed engine before I needed a swirl pot and new lines which I fitted last week, also last week I adapted the loom for the capri so I was ready to go :
The engine bay with its 2.8
10:00am
The engine is out
11:30am
The 24V lump is sat on its mounts , went in fairly easily ...
5:00pm
The rest of the bits are connected to the engine and the loom is added ( mostly hidden behind the glove box)
There was a little problem with fitting the starter moter as it fouled on the alloy sump , slight adjustment to the starter casing with a grinder and it was in
I tried to engine ........... it fired for about half a second ... I found out the second hand high pressure fuel pump I brought was faulty
gave up for the day ,
This morning refitted the bonnet , fixed the powersteering tank in place and a few other minor bits and I've ordered a new pump , fingers crossed when it arrives I should be good to go
Looks good fitted !! fingers crossed it runs when I get the new pump fitted ......

Makes the 2.8 look kind of puny.
Looking good James, hope it runs OK

I thought it was going to be harder , but after spending quite some time researching the conversion and collecting info , it was fairly striaight forward , the wiring was the tough bit !
But my god the car is fast now !

Hi ,still using the type 9 at the moment ,it all fitted nicely together just like the 2.8 did, it will break eventually then i'll use an MT75 . Hopefully taking it to Santa Pod this year.
