Tyre pressure

Post by Si »

Does anyone know what pressure I should have my 195/60/14 tyres set at? They're fitted on a 1985 1.6 Laser which was lowered by the previous owner - although I'm not sure by how much. The Ford manual pressure guide does not include this size tyre size and at the moment I have them all set at 26. I have a sneaky suspicion I should have less pressure on the front tyres but how is this likely to effect the car's handling?

You're not far out

The laser tyres listed in the Ford Capri operating manual are as so:

185sr13 / 185/70 sr13 F=23 R=27 (psi)

Under heavy load increse to:

F=27 R= 31

That said 23 psi makes the steering VERY heavy and I run mine at 27psi all round which makes steering much easier. The Capri Club suggested this as OK

Thanks Mark. I'll keep them as they are, around 26/27psi all round. My Capri handles fine but as I was getting new tyres fitted yesterday (for a looming and dreaded MOT), the thought crossed my mind that perhaps I didn't have them at the right pressure.
