Re: Laser + GL and now a 3.0S!
So, time for an update on my recent top secret project!!
I've had Debby 12 years now and she has always needed the arches doing for as long as I've had her. 12 years, 60k miles and general abuse/wear and tear has added other jobs to the list as the years have gone on
Life has always got in the way and money needed spending elsewhere, but a very understanding and encouraging partner has encouraged me to finally splurge and start doing some work! With her permission forthcoming I finally bit the bullet.
So, a visit was made to Phil at Capri Care MK who said he can do the work, gave me a load of parts to order and a job to strip down the car as much as possible before dropping it off to him - and this the latest project began!
An order was made for new rear arches, Valence and rear quarters, new sills, and I still had a bumper I bought in 2015 knocking around, so that much like a Kardashian, Debby can get some major backside surgery...
Will also give me some time to respray the interior in some HFVP and also jet wash the carpets and generally tart her up a bit
Cue the pictures, but you can see that it desperately needs doing and I'm really excited to see if come back in a few months time looking good as new!

It doesn't look too bad for a car that is used daily, it's done quite well. All the ferret oxide on it is quite fixable. It's about on a par with how my Laser was, maybe a bit worse in places.

Hi Danny,
So, that's the secret you've kept to yourself!

You're definitely doing the right thing biting the bullet, and I look forward to seeing more photos as work progresses.
Andrew.

As I found out for myself, it's something that you have to do and at least it'll be sorted for some time yet, once it's done.
And if you're anything like me, you'll end up adding to the scope...

Can`t copy images (???) , the pic between the NS front wing and the OS scuttle/wing/door - where is that, a seat mount or something? Cracked?
Re: Laser + GL and now a 3.0S!
Bringer of good tidings - first loose flywheels now cracks in the floor...

Great... is this one particular mounting point (driver side, rear left for eg) , or are any liable to break? Thanks for your help.

Thanks Andrew, have been wanting to do it for ages so really excited to be able to finally start! Car is being dropped off tomorrow...Andrew 2.8i wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 10:27 am Hi Danny,

My thoughts exactly Tom, will hopefully keep it clean and tidy for the next ten years once done! And yes I have no doubt that I will keep adding to the list....
That crack in mine is on the driver's side rear mount, the inside one close to the centre console. No idea how it got there and I wasn't even aware it was there until I took the carpet up! Judging by the staples still stuck in the carpets it seems like they have never been out before

Re: Laser + GL and now a 3.0S!
Thanks for that. I`m guessing the passenger side is OK as it`s used less. I`ve had a handbrake fracture the floor before but never a seat mount, although I know it does happen... oh joy!

Passenger side is still a bit rusty around the mounts but not cracked yet no

Nice one Dan, should look grand when it's done
Re: Laser + GL and now a 3.0S!
Peter,
Very interesting, if depressing, read. When you said "the other mounting", I assume that was the other rear one for the driver`s seat, not the `same` one on the passenger`s side? Also, what sort of mileage had that car covered, if you can remember?
Re: Laser + GL and now a 3.0S!
Looking good Danny

You should see the footwells.. both like the skull of Frankenstein's monster with all the patches. All done properly though, not just plated. God that was hard work

Re: Laser + GL and now a 3.0S!
Yes both rear mountings on the driver seat. Passenger side is fine but hardly anyone has sat in it since 2001 at least
Mileage is somewhere around 150k
Re: Laser + GL and now a 3.0S!
Thanks for that Peter!
