Andrew 2.8i wrote: Thu Aug 04, 2022 4:44 pm In James Taylor's "Factory-Original Ford Capri MKII & III" book it states this about the clock:

"The quartz clock embedded in the centre console always had yellow hands, even though the main dials had red hands".

Andrew.
When I bought this book and read this sentense, I got the impression that all the information in this book may not be 100% true.
Main dial hands (not fingers :) ) are orange not red in my opinion, and "that sentense" is under picture of clock with clearly faded hands to yellow.

My are still more orange than yellow same as (most of hands) on main dials.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I'm simply quoting from the book. :)

Of course. ;)

But I was little bit disappointed with this book then. You buy this type of books to know how everything should be and then you find something, what isn't true for sure (or it is disputed)...
So there could be wrong information in this book, so you can't rely on it for 100% no more. I wasn't happy with that.

Hi Tom,
I think the book is an interesting read, and have generally found it to be an invaluable reference guide.
Although I feel that to be the ultimate originality guide it needs to be much more comprehensive.

I agree with you that there are some glaring errors that could have been eliminated if it had been proof read by a Capri expert.
For example, it states on page 101 that the plastic side trims inside the boot "were always black"....
Perhaps grey is the new black?

 Yes, that's it!

Ok, you're right. Overall it is good book, but you have to verify every information from another source anyway.

Can I just say that in the other book on the ford Capri where Henry Ford JNR told the world about The Pinto being the best Engine in The World . There’s no mention of the clock in that book or the secret books there after .

mine are brown ....well were till I painted them :D
and the sun does fade the clock hands as it does the dash gauge needles . I fitted a 2nd hand tach and the needle on that was brighter than the old speedo . Close inspection of the speedo needle showed it was faded more on one side ( of the ridge along the centre line of the needle ) than the other .....so Im thinkin its the sun that fades them :)
Sometimes I talk to myself ... and we both have a good laugh

Hehe funny that. And I didn't realise this would get so much interest, it may well deserve it's own category yet!

Still nothing totally conclusive then yet, but it would seem to be either -

They were all orange (very likely), and most have faded to yellow, or

Some were possibly yellow to begin with, and some orange, or even

a combination of the above. Certainly, the orange ones seems much more harder to find now.

I've put my clock under the driver's seat. That way, whenever need to drive somewhere, I'll always be on time.
