Capri brochure "photoshoping"

Post by T.M. »

Hi,
in different topic we came across "photoshoping" in Capri brochures, so here are few examples:

01- white 3.0S change wheels from Ghia/S across 7" RS 4spoke to 6" 4spoke.
02- silver 2.3S with twin exhaust change to 2.0S with one exhaust (because of upgrade to mighty Pinto ;) )
03- black over silver LHD 2.8i 4 speed change to RHD 2.8i 5 speed (thanks to Andrew for last picture)

Well spotted, Tom!

The wheels in the last photo of the 3.0S look quite badly photoshopped.

Andrew.

:agree:

It was probably done by some student who worked there only over the summer. :)

They have been doing it for years, I remember my dad picking up a brouchure of the ''new Granada'' while he was in Germany with work in the 70's and when he got home the brochure was exactly the same as the UK one but with the picture reversed and UK plates photo shopped on. Even the same smiling person on a couple of shots.

So back in the day, what, you'd have snapped a picture of the badge / number plate / wheels of a different car in a similar plane, developed the pictures, then stuck them over the pertinent parts of the car in the brochure, then feathered in the details a bit and sent it to the printers?

Not quite Tom, it would be done on a light table/bench, using positive/negative film which printing plates are made from, real life cutting and pasting, it is where the terms come from. Something I used to be involved in.
