Valvoline VR1 is the dogs bollocks
I have just done oil change on my laser, put Valvoline VR1 in and what a difference it has made to the oil pressure, getting an increase of 2 graduations on the gauge so now at 3/4 way up the gauge. Love this stuff, used it on my previous Capri and in my XR4, both run really well with it.

Been using Valvoline racing oil for years - you are spot on it is good stuff, the only other oil I would use is Penrite which is also good stuff and has a high zinc content like the Valvoline which is good for flat tappet cams.

Used to use VR1 but can't afford it currently! I'm using Millers pistoneeze 20/50 now, opie oils had an offer on it

Rebuilding an engine can cost more than saving a few Β£ on oil so becarful, do you know you can by ZINC to add to oil? https://www.frost.co.uk/zddplus-anti-wear-oil-additive/
I add one every other oil change on my classic cars.
Its like cheap tyres? its all that keep your car on the road yet I see Β£50k cars on ditch finders, madness.

I should have said it's essential for flat tappet cams, I have personally seen what damage can be done to cam followers when low zinc or no zinc oil has been used - it's not pretty.

Millers says that this oil has been formulated with zddp to protect older engines, or words to that effect, but I couldn't find any numbers on it. I think we need around 1200 for our engines, from mammary.

Not sure you should be using anything from mammary in your engine.
Plus 1 for Millers though, always used it on my RS4 and now use it on this. Pricey but always gets good recommendations. Not tried VR1 though!

Be careful with that, high oil pressure can be just as bad as low, especially in the cold. Certainly, reading high on the gauge can be an indication that the oil is too heavy/thick.

The higher the pressure the more strain on the oil pump drive,.........and some are only just up to the task in stock form . Just where in the oil system the gauge is can affect how it does its job.
