Quirks

Post by Major_Tom »

..so I did my valve clearances this afternoon, jumped in the car for a test run and found that the clock, that has been buggered for a year, has started functioning again.

Also my voltmeter, which has never worked ever since I bought this car 16 years ago, has suddenly begun working. But the horn is now bust

Fo any of your cars have odd habits?

My indicator on the rear recently stopped working but couldn't for the life of me figure out why

Swapped it with the front one and both worked - not the first time it has done so!

My rev counter also has a habit of occasionally just not working for the first 10seconds of the engine being on, but then suddenly decides to work

Might pay to do a dummy practice disconnect the rev counter wire at the coil on roadside. Mine did similar thing , also would die for ½ a second, and take the sparks with it. I didnt know what caused it till the engine died ( halfway up a hill heading out of Nelson at peak traffic ). Turned out the tacho had a intermitant short when something inside got hot and shorted the coil - to earth .

Quirks.......

I once mistakenly hit a lever on the side of my steering wheel and two rubber lined "arms" moved across and back on my windscreen.
