Stupid annoying annoying stupid boot latch..

..so the boot has stopped latching closed. No problem, happened before, so I adjusted the position of the eye, moved it up, closed the boot lid.... and it still doesn't lock home. Adjusted it some more, to the limit, and its still not working! Any suggestions? The catch has three screws, three screws has the catch, but that doesn't seem to afford any adjustment unless I am being more thick than normal.

Have you tried pushing a screwdriver shank into the latch when it is open, to simulate the bar part?
Maybe it is not latching over, rather than adjustment being out?
I seem to remember a similar problem years back which was the spring breaking so it wouldn't pull the latch across.

Ok pressed it in with a screwie, the catch comes out, but doesnt lock in place and goes back into the opened position when pressure it released.

I think you need to unbolt the catch and investigate. Sounds like the spring may not be pulling it to the over-centre position.
Definitely not an adjustment issue though by the sounds of it.

Sorry, sorted this ages ago, it was gummed up with 36 years of dust and grease. Took it off, cleaned it thoroughly, now its good!

How the hell did you get it out?? I can't for the life of me get the massive nut off the back of the latch and all three of mine do the exact same thing yours did!

I just sprayed GT85 in it and kept working it until it loosened up. Didnt disassemble I don't think.

Needle-nose pliers will do the trick.
