Looking for a knob

Post by Jasonmarie »

I am having a road trip soon and getting a steering wheel re trimmed for the Capri so was going to get my knob done at the same time but the one I have is fine so seems a shame to undo the old work .
So was on the look out for a old 5 speed one so I can get re trimmed

There's one on ebay Jason. Only £165 at the moment
I have one without the centre number bit if it is of interest. I can probably discount the ebay price a little

Here's a knob, can't imagine why anyone would want it though.

Out of curiosity (extreme nosiness), how much is going to cost to get the steering wheel and gearknob retrimmed?

So I am having a two tone steering wheel with better grip and that’s £160 I think the knob is £45 with £9.99 to post back to me .
I am hoping to drive up there in March so will post some pictures up when done

That sounds great, Jason.
Do you mean two tone grey, or are you having fancier colours?

I like the look of the perforated leather.
£160 for a retrim seems quite reasonable considering the amount of skilled work involved.

No disrespect, but I really do think you have lost sight of the value of money Andrew, and what it means to people.

I think it's each to their own really isn't it?

£160 is a fair bit of money, but would I think it's too much for a re-covering?
For me probably yes, I'd rather have £160 in my pocket and a manky steering wheel
However, there are people out there taking up the offer of a radio refurbishment with all the modern gubbins inside for what was it, £500-1000? Those who choose to do that must think it's a value for money?

Trying to think of a similar comparison - I refuse to pay for E5 fuel because it's too expensive, but a lot of other people here think it's worth the cost. It's all relative really isn't it?
