Great stuff Andy, would never be allowed now. Channel 7 on freeview are showing the original Kenny Everett TV show, and in each one there is a Hot Gossip routine. He calls it the naughty bit, probably was back then, quite lame now but strangely it wouldn't be allowed. Go figure!

51 years ago it doesn't seem right They were beautiful women from a time where natural good looks was it, no plastic or filler. Sadly only 2 from that lineup are still with us.pbar wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 8:10 pm Great stuff Andy, would never be allowed now. I always liked Kenny Everett, but agree he wouldn't be allowed near any TV channel nowadays

It was certainly a joyous time when the class realised the lesson involved watching TV!

In the 70s I used to like cleaning my grandparents fireplace and setting up a new coal fire, and sometimes use a toasting fork to toast the bread

Nice one Andy. The good old days of proper fossil fuel
We never had an open fireplace but my grandparents over in Ireland did so was always a treat as a kid to sit in front of the fire and hear the crackling and feel the heat

There's something about an open fire, but makes me tired

I do love an open fire - my mum used to have one at her old house and it was lovely.

Re: Who Remembers?
Who can remember this type of fire/heater, which was very common back in the day, must have cost a fortune to run, but in these days of everything-must-be-electric perhaps they'll make a comeback!
Re: Who Remembers?
Yes Paul, we had one in the lounge. The smell of burning dust if it hadn't been used for a while
They threw out quite a bit of heat, but you had to wonder how fast the meter was spinning
We now have a more modern version in the conservatory during winter to keep the dogs warm at night (Hot Dogs)

Re: Who Remembers?
We have a false fire in the lounge and agree with Andy the burning smell of dust when you use it after some time , Andrew is quite on this as I have read in books they still use open fires to cook on in wales and warm the water for a tin bath

Don't you be putting Andrew down Jason, his butler will get the specified temperature for his luxurious hot jacuzzi, and his chef will prepare his specified menu on the Rangemaster Deluxe.Jasonmarie wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 8:16 pm Andrew is quite on this as I have read in books they still use open fires to cook on in wales and warm the water for a tin bath

Ahh that smell, would love to have it just one more time. You're right Andy, they did give out some proper heat, very cosy.
