Hi,
yes, according to VIN plate it was 3.0 with automatic gearbox and with brown interior. Manufactured in January 1981.

And there is several not correct information in the text. For me little bit misleading advert.

Its a bitsa, so long as folks know its a bitsa thats fine & it will find its value, but to the uninitiated, someone could pay way too much as the advert leads you to believe its a genuine model.

For us longer term owners, we know that there was no such thing as a 2.8 Ghia in the UK ;)

To be fair, the listing does states in at least five places that this car has been modified with parts from a Special. Granted, they don't appear to specifically mention the engine swap, which I think they probably should have.
Perhaps a non-original car like this might make sense for somebody who wants a usable Capri to enjoy, but feels that good condition original examples are overpriced.
I would hope that anybody in the market to buy a Capri, or any classic car for that matter, will do sufficient research to spot what's right and wrong with their intended purchase.
I see that the reserve price has already been met, it looks like the seller has been realistic with their expectations.

Hi,
I agree, but there is this sentence too: "There’s been some subtle upgrades too, but no wide-ranging modifications."

It doesn't have to be the bad car. But like it was said, 2.8i Ghia doesn't exist and there isn't clearly write about engine swap. I think that for ordinary buyer it looks like original 1981 2.8i with seats and wheels from Special.

Thing is though the advert says the car will soon be tax and MOT exempt but with these modifications will the car still qualify?

Still a cheap capri if you just want a V6 blast from the past though and aren't othered about it being concourse/original etc.
If I knew nothing about a capri and just wanted a V6 one then it doesn't seem like such a bad option - especially considering most good examples start at £10-12k these days - including pintos

Yes it will, as an engine swap won’t disqualify her from tax exemption.

Whoever wrote the description is an artist in bullshit, typical trainee auctioneer style. “Product of Dagenham “ “left the roads” in 1986??
The research has been minimal and most cut and pasted from bits and pieces from google. The mechanical section doesn’t mention an obvious engine swap so mileage is irrelevant.
No way put a mk2 Capri badge on the boot!!! (Just a 2.9 cossie in the engine bay is acceptable) 😀😀
the lesson learned is never believe an auction house description of anything. Never have done, always do your own research..
Cheers
