Urgent help! 2.9 cologne water pump cossie 24v?
Hi all, I wonder if anyone can kindly assist, I’ve reached breaking point!
Capri is a 2.8 special with a 1995 Scorpio Cosworth 2.9 24v BOB engine. When the water pump gave in, I ordered a replacement but it’s totally different from the original- different moulding and internal profile.
I thought that the supplier had messed up, so ordered another via my local parts factor. When it arrived it was same story.
Upon further investigation the part number on the original (95-TM-8505-AA) is a Ford USA part number for a Ford Explorer /Focus 3?. However my local engineering firm discovered that the explorer part number pump bears no resemblance to mine.
So it looks like Ford have either messed up in stamping the pump or they made it obsolete and re used the number?
My local garage now has her in bits but no pump.. Noted that there’s actually a section bolted on to the front of the block which has the casting for the water pump. we reckoned Ford could have used excess sections off other Cologne models to save money on the early Scorpio? Then of course that would make sense, as scorpios after that have the revised / proper block section? The usual part that comes up is FWP 1404 but doesn’t fit mine..
Mine has the stamping FNO 757 but cannot locate that either.
If there’s anyone out there knowledgeable about the cologne and can find me a replacement water pump for mine, or give me advice as to who to check it by, I’d be grateful as at the moment it’s a mystery and she’s just unusable!!
Cheers ! Stu

Hi 80s-new-man,
I’m not an expert on the subject however, that photo of the water pump you’ve attached isn’t from a Cologne V6 2.0/2.3/2.8. (These engines have the bottom hose connection on the thermostat housing which is bolted to the water pump housing.)
Could this be what you’re looking for?
https://www.burtonpower.com/water-pump- ... p2672.html
I certainly would have a word with Burton.
Let us know how you get on.
All the best,
Steve
PS
I've just found another.
You'll notice that the bottom hose connection on this one is bent in the same direction as the one you need.
Unfortunately, it's indicated as, "not available" however, it does say it's from a Scorpio 2 so that may help you.

Hi Steve thanks, however I’ve a Scorpio BOB 2.9 cossie fitted. It’s a mystery who has these parts now. The one Burton has is for the earlier Granada Scorpio BoA. They don’t sell BOB ones..
I may have to find an engineering company to repair mine!

Is there not a chance you could find someone with a Scorpio that has the same engine and ask to look at theirs?
Indeed, is there an owners club? If so I'm sure you're not the first to encounter this problem?

It's me again.
How many water pumps do you want?
I've just spoken to a very nice lady who told me they can repair your pump. They've done Scorpio pumps before.
All you have to do is send your pump for one of their engineers to asses what it needs and prepare an estimate.
Here are their contact details:
Tel: +44 (0) 1925 850082
Fax: +44 (0) 1925 850083

Wow thanks Steve for taking time out to help me, owe you a beer
I’m currently speaking to my local engineer - if he can’t do it, I’ll definitely be contacting her! Cheers! Stu

well I’m very impressed with her,
I’m delighted with SP water pumps (Warrington) , yes Jackie is the sales director there, she prioritised the rebuild of my pump and I had it back within about 3 days! £168...
thoroughly recommend to anyone out there for any pump repair, much better than relying on eBay rubbish that’s not even described properly!
Thanks to all that advised and got me outa this predicament!!
I’m still not sure which ones are on eBay banded about as Scorpio 2s (with the square cut-out) are they BOA pumps?
Cheers!

Really useful to know of such places. Definitely add it to my list.
